i will try to type what my MRI report says but the fax is not a great copy. where there is a ? or a * means i cannot read it.

      Diagnosis:
1-Minor wedging of L1 and L2 with Schmorl's nodes at L3 which all appear chronic

2-Bulge with left foraman(?) disc protusion at L4-5 resulting in moderate left foraman(?) stenosis

3-Bulge with small central disc protrusion L5-S1 with mild stenosis

      Comment
There are Schmorl's nodes in L1,L2 and L3 which are *****without edema. There is minor compression of the superior endplates of L and L2 with no associated edema suggesting that they are chronic as well. The discs are narrowed at ***levels to some degree. The L1-2,L2-3, and L3-4 discs demostrate no significant stenosis. There is minimal bulging at L3-4, At L4-5, there is bulging of the disc with moderate eft**for** disc protrusion. There is spondylosis. This results in moderate left foraminal stenosis. At L* there is a bulge with a small central disc protrusion. This results in mild cent********. There is no nerve root impingement herre.

stenosis means a narrowing of the opening (the foramen) through which the spinal nerve passes. if the stenosis continues, the vertebral bodies will impinge on the spinal root and, you guessed it, that really hurts. it can also lead to weakness and even paralysis. L4-L5 spinal nerve roots innervate the hips and legs, so thats why folks get the shooting pain and tingling down the legs--that nerve is letting them know its pinched and not happy. usually its surgery city for this, with a nice burrowing out of the foramen with a drill-like instrument. the spondylosis means basically the vertebral bodies are wasting or crumbling a little bit. if this gets bad enuff, youll wind up with a wire cage screwed into the intact verterbral bodies above and below the crumbling one to help support the spinal column. How old are you??

35 years old and was ging to start to powerlift training but thts over with. I have a low testostone level of 150 so i dont know if that has anything to do with it or the fact that i am morbid obese(lost 44 pounds since november and 11% of my BF)

Thats rather young to have all that you have going on, ogar..sounds like the back of a rodeo cowboy or a coal miner. I wouldnt think the low test level would have anything to do with it, as you simply havent lived long enuff to have your hormones impacting your skeletal system yet..again, just MO. Youre right, I would avoid powerlifting..i.e. squats, DLs, etc. you know that. Man, just go for weight loss..run, run, run..and lift to start burning some cals off. Keep yourself stretched out and work your abdominals to keep your trunk strong. Sounds like youre on the right track w/ 44# off since last Nov. so congrats on that. Take care of your back, because as Ive said, backs and shoulders have long memories and hold grudges.

      Have a BENCH day!
