  • Jon Jones Tests Positive for Cocaine - Enters Rehab

He's still champion, he still won the fight, but Jon Jones appears to be losing his battle with drugs. Yahoo Sports reports that a random drug test conducted on December 4th came back positive for benzoylecgonine, one of the principal chemicals in cocaine. As strange as it may seem, cocaine isn't a banned out of competition substance by the NSAC, so not only did they not have the power to stop the fight from going forward, but there's no changing the result either. Unless the UFC wants to strip Jones, the belt is still his.

Jones released a statement to Yahoo, about his decision to enter rehab:

"With the support of my family, I have entered into a drug treatment facility. I want to apologize to my fiancée, my children, as well as my mother, father, and brothers for the mistake that I made. I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy."

For many, while the announcement is sudden, the existence of the problem is less of a surprise. Rumors of Jones' use of the drug have been swirling for some time now.

According to Yahoo's report, the NSAC will consider potentially breaking with WADA code for future, similar violations.

Eventually, if there isn't deep integrity and fundamental character strength, the challenges of life will cause true motives to surface and human relationship failure will replace short-term success.

There is an idea of who I am: some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me; only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel my flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.

“I’ve always been a person who tries to do the right thing in life, for the most part,” said Jones. “I’m no angel, but I was always the kid who snitched on the kids who had pot. I don’t want to offend the pot smokers out there, but I was kind of just a snitch. I was just down for people doing the right thing. My parents kind of raised me to be a good guy. I’ve always been down for the good side, I guess.” - Jon Jones, 2009 (right before his DUI arrest in which he crashed his car at like 2am w/ two women in the car, neither one being his wife...)

It would be a shame if his demons out of the octagon ruined his career.

Nick Diaz gets suspended for weed due to a dirty test, but the athletic commission didn't put cocaine on the list??? That is ridiculous!!! Addiction is a disease, so I hope he can fight those demons, but with this fame and fortune he is living in...it is a slippery slope. I will say although I do not care for him much anymore ever since he made the UFC cancel UFC 151 due to Jones refusing to fight Chael Sonnen at the last minute, I do pray he can fight this addiction and become more humble like he used to be.

I think he had a problem before the DUI a while back .
It's unfortunate that young athletes that are so successful can't also be role models .

Exactly. Weed and PED's get you suspended but cocaines ok? Ludicrous that his test comes back positive for coke on December 23rd and he's allowed to fight 10 days later AND Dana doesn't mention it til after the fight? All about the mighty dollar. And don't even get me going on mr phillipians tattooed on his chest and Jesus is my savior speeches every time he used to open his mouth now being found out for the man he truly is, alcohol and drugs and whoring around. Every one of these clowns who spouts religion on the field or in the ring is a huge hypocrite.

from the UFC's Code of Conduct:

"Fighters shall conduct themselves in accordance with commonly accepted standards of decency, social convention, and morals, and fighters will not commit any act or become involved in any situation or occurrence or make any statement which will reflect negatively upon or bring disrepute, contempt, scandal, ridicule or disdain to the fighter or the UFC."

somewhat nebulous but how does this not apply to Jones?

also, what do you guys make of this: His Dec 4 test came back with a .29/1 T/E ratio. His December 18th test came back with .19/1 T/E ratio. this say anything about PED use to anyone?

                the plot thickens...

Re: Jon Jones Tests Positive for Cocaine - Enters Rehab

                    wow now this:

Nevada deputy attorney general reviewing whether or not Jon Jones perjured himself.
It's not just the failed drug test for cocaine that is an issue for Jon Jones, Nevada is now looking into the possibility that he perjured himself at a hearing over his press conference brawl with Daniel Cormier.

Jones stated the brawl cost him his Nike sponsorship and therefore thousands of dollars. Then in the lead up to UFC 182 he went on to say that the brawl did not cost him the sponsorship, rather Nike was looking to get out of MMA since the UFC signed their uniform deal w/ Reebok.

when it rains it pours lol

found this and thought it was interesting, actual contract verbiage:

Fighter shall not use any controlled or banned substance, including but not limited to marijuana, cocaine, metamphetamine, steroids, human growth hormone or any similar drugs or blood doping techniques (each a “Controlled Substance"), and Fighter agrees to submit to any pre-Bout or post-Bout drug test as requested by an Athletic Commission. Fighter shall be deemed to be in breach of this Section if Fighter tests positive for any Controlled Substance in any pre-Bout or post-Bout drug test.

Fighter acknowledges that an Athletic Commission may fine, suspend or impose other
penalties, including but not limited to removing recognition from Fighter of any Championship title, status or belt if Fighter tests positive for a Controlled Substance.

I thought Nike bailed on him after his DUI? Interesting how now he claims it was Cormier then the reebok deal that caused it. Didn't Anderson silva say that his deal with Nike meant outside the cage he would still wear his sponsor's gear although inside the cage he would be forced to wear reebok? Sounds like jones is still confused.
