with that back hand and then took that knee TO THE MID SECTION/CHEST. Hey atleast chael took round 1. And I believe if chael didnt slip the outcome could of been different. I cant believe he slipped with that back hand,DAMN Well sooner or later silva will have to go up now and then chael could take the title who knows

    Re: Chael had to slip

    my take

Well silva spent the first round on his back but he looked relaxed and poised and even though at the end he got mounted and sonnen threw some "shoulder strikes" with his chin.

second round silva shrugged off the takedown by using sonnen's shorts to keep his hips away. it was not a quick thing either. he hung on until the ref slapped his hand.

i will give it to sonnen. when he commits to a technique like say a spinning back fist, he commits. wow he missed, lost his footwork and ended up on the mat.

silva casually walked over and started a beating. he threw a knee, which the point slammed sonnen's upper chest. this hurt sonnen bad he tried to get up and just fell. silva finished with G&P until the ref stopped it.

i think it was a fair stoppage but for some reason i wanted something more definitive. maybe if he had let it go just 2 more seconds.

i was not satisfied by this victory. maybe silva has spoiled me.

      Re: Chael had to slip

I think the ref should of let it go a little bit longer to make it clear that Sonnen was done. He was still defending himself properly and really didn't take excessive damage when the fight was stopped. I think Silva did deserve the win. Sonnen has the style to beat Silva but he would have to have an absolutely perfect fight because Silva is so good that any single mistake would spell the end. I was honestly hoping for more out of the night of fights but it was still a decent card. Time to see Silva vs. GSP , That is what I want to see.

IF THAT SPINNING BACK FIST WOULD HAVE LANDED....SILVA WOULD HAVE BEEN HURTING! MAN I WISH IT WOULD HAVE GONE LONGER!! I STILL
THINK CHAEL IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN HANDLE SILVA. (TO AN EXTENT) SILVA JUST CANT HANDLE BEING TAKEN DOWN BY CHAEL

          Re: Chael had to slip

I have really come to like Sonnen because he backs up his trash talk.

That was a stupid mistake too. It was a very telegraphed spinning back fist that wasn't even close.

But I'm going against the grain here and saying that it wouldn't have mattered. I think Silva was going to start stuffing the take downs for the most part and it would have ended the same way regardless. I didn't see Sonnen winning that fight despite what happened. The shorts thing was not cool, but that stuff happens. Anderson is just the better all around fighter of the two.

Huge props for Sonnen for owning up to the loss. I am for sure a fan now.

oh cmon dude silva would have been taken down by chael.I just dont know why people cant understand that chael is right.Look at the fighters silva has fought and won. The majority of them are average.Bottom line chael made a mistake which cost him the fight. And Tnz chael takes everyone down in every round. Silva would of kept grabbing his shorts throughout the whole fight if it would of continued. The first round was totaly controlled by bchael again and a mistake,A MISTAKE cost chael the fight.

You may be right. We will never know. All I know is Anderson was stuffing Chael's attempts before the short grab. I just don't think it would have ended differently. But it's done now.

I guess a lot of people really dont see what chael did to this guy that no other fighter has came close to doing,no one If I was chael I would keep at him. But like I said silva will fight Gsp and he has to move up in weight and then chael can have his day

                    Re: Chael had to slip

I agree with you there. Chael took it to Anderson like no one has ever even come close to doing. He all but won the first fight and obviously had the same game plan in the second fight. I like Sonnen and don't want to take anything away from him. I just think he was hurt before the spinning back fist. Anderson caught him with a couple of good shots. I don't see them fighting any more in MW at least. And Sonnen made a statement today that almost sounded like he was done. That he had fought for the title and got two chances and still couldn't beat him. I hope he doesn't quit. He could make another run or even go to LHW. We will see.

no he makes them look average, from the time he beat franklin, every one of them were in the top 5 in the world. the elite. and many top 20 guys in his past. name 1 guy who was better than who he faced in the UFC? there arent any. he is the best. and a mistake MAY have cost chael the fight. that's what fighting is. every strike you land is due to mistake by your opponent. otherwise they would slip or pick off the strike.
