GSP more likely at 155 than 185

In an interview with Sherdog radio, Firas Zahabi, UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre's head trainer, said a move to 155 was more likely than a move to 185 for the French-Canadian superstar.

Now granted, this is simply speculative. Zahabi also mentioned that a move to 155 is far less likely with Frankie Edgar holding the belt.

The reason being is that both GSP and Edgar train Brazilian jiu jitsu under Renzo Gracie, so obviously these two have trained with each other on many occasions and would like to avoid each other in the Octagon if possible.

I'm wondering if he is being sarcastic just to say that GSP would not be going to 185. I mean, all we have heard is how hard it is getting for GSP to make WW weight.

i think it could be done. cut the protein. he would have to drop some muscle but he would be a monster

I think he would make it, but I think he would be a completely different fighter. I don't think he would be as dominate as everyone thinks. The lighter the weight classes get, the more technical they get IMO. It would be something to see but Firas has said that it won't happen with Frankie holding the belt.

How about a GSP/Penn matchup at 155?

Exactly. He has said that it is very hard for him to cut weight or add weight. I don't know why he doesn't just stay at WW and dominate. That's what I would do.

Agreed. The division is all but gone through. I would like to see him challenged as well but at the upper weights. When I said stay at WW, I meant in comparison with going to 155. I'm all for him moving up and fighting. I think that would be a much better challenge.

He won't fight Edgar. Edgar and him are part of the same BJJ team and that's the whole reason he hasn't tried the cut to date....or at least that's what Firas says. I see a few guys that would really pose issues with GSP at 155 depending on how the cut goes.
