Stevenson drops to featherweight; Meets Javier Vazquez at UFC on Versus 4
With the tremendous amount of talent now under the Zuffa banner, times are tough if you're a lightweight fighter coming off a loss, and Joe Stevenson has fallen on a rough string of losses in his last three outings. With consecutive losses to George Sotiropoulos, Mac Danzig, and Danny Castillo, Stevenson has decided to drop down to the featherweight division with hopes of better success, as the UFC announced that he will meet Javier Vazquez in his featherweight debut. The bout has been slotted for the UFC on Versus 4 show, taking place June 26th from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
As the winner of season 2 of "The Ultimate Fighter", Stevenson has competed with some of the best fighters in the world, including a UFC lightweight title fight with BJ Penn in 2008. Much like former UFC lightweight Kenny Florian, Joe will look to rejuvenate his career in hopes of getting a title shot against reigning UFC featherweight champion, Jose Aldo.
Javier "Showtime" Vazquez will be making his UFC debut after a unanimous decision loss to Chad Mendes at WEC 52: Faber vs. Mizugaki. The Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt has gone 2-1 in his last three outings, and will be looking to score one of the biggest wins of his career when he meets Stevenson this June.
