Anderson is happy at 185...not interested in 205

It didn't take long after Jon Jones won the UFC light heavyweight championship for everyone in the MMA world -- right up to UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta -- to start clamoring for a superfight between Jones and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

ULTMMA.com asked Silva what he thinks, and the UFC's oldest champion said he's in awe of the UFC's youngest champion. But he didn't sound all that interested in moving up to light heavyweight.

"Jon Jones? I don't know, amazing," Silva said. "This is very new for Jon Jones. Jon Jones will get more fights, more experience, more techniques. My opinion of Jon Jones? The best in his category. Champion for a long time."

Asked if he wants a crack at Jones himself, though, Silva seemed to confirm what has been reported recently, which is that he'd rather stay at 185 pounds than fight outside his weight class.

"I don't know," Silva said. "I'm very happy in my category. I have my problems in my category. I'm very happy with my work in my category, my team. This is my category. I don't have plans for up or down. I'm very happy."

So with Silva not wanting to move up to 205 and Georges St. Pierre not wanting to move up to 185, we may all have to content ourselves with Silva fighting Yushin Okami, rather than taking on a fellow champion.

Well, it looks like we will see these champs hold position for a while, IMO. I don't see anyone beating GSP. I don't see anyone beating Anderson (even Chael which I think will have a MUCH harder fight the second time). And I don't see anyone beating Jones. This is the way I think it should be. They need to quit trying to force some super fight when the fighters themselves could really care less. I say we just enjoy the unbelievable talent that we have before us while it lasts.

Everyone is beatable at any time and I cant wait for chael to come back and hopefuly they fight again. I understand you have your opinion but chael destroyed Silva for 4 rounds and 3 minutes so on that silva can get better and so can chael. I will take nothing away from jones but he did fight a guy who had knee surgery and looked just like he did the last time that happened to him but I wont take anything away from jones he fought a great fight

okami is a grinder, he has what it takes to push to a decision. if he does not get KOd coming in or triangled on the ground

Honestly, I can see Okami beating Anderson before Chael. I mean "IF" Anderson was injured and still took everything Chael had (and destroyed Chael's face from the bottom), then I don't think Chael can getting it done. He had Anderson is the absolute best possible position to beat him....had him in HIS world...and still couldn't seal the deal.


I agree about Shogun and the knee surgery but that isn't what got him IMO (and I am a big Shogun fan). It was those couple of shots Jones landed early. They rocked Shogun and he never recovered. He might have recovered better if not for the down time with the knee....but he was outmatched in every way from what I saw.
