  • a good friend of mine...

is fighting in the 'octagon' locally. and we're not a metro city by any means. But some home-grown tough dudes that have done well on some payout nights when folks have came from miles to fight.
A dude I've known since high-school is fighting about twice a month. He's badass with his hands. damn good hands, but his ground game sucks. He knocks dudes out with a 1, 2 combo usually, but e's gotten choked out a few times. Body slammed twice in 1 round a couple wks ago. KOed a dude practicing last wk with a quick 2 punch. He KOed a 6'3" supposedly "pro" a cpl wks ago as well. My buddy was a shit starter, bad, in high-school & shortly after. We weren't the best of friends back then. He tried me when I was a buck 20 soakin wet with rocks in my pockets. I took 3 from him before I knew what happened, but didn't phase me the slightest. If his little buddies didn't pull me back immediately when they saw me ready to respond, it woulda been over fasho. I was a little shit all my life. I shot up about 8"-9" in 3months between 10th & 11th grade. I have the horizontal stretch marks around my lower waist and hips to prove it. Went from 5'2" to almost 6' quick. Now 6'1", I just learned a few months ago at the doctor's office. So, I'm glad to be over 6' and a good 190. But my bf% is too low. I ain't just sayin that to sound like a jackass. I'm hanging at like 5% bf. No matter what I eat. Walking a 90lb bulldog 4x/day equalling about 45min of serious cardio is not helpin matters in that dept at all.
Point. Since I'll get off-point.lol..I'm thinkin about fukin with getting in the ring. After some heavy bag training & getting serious with gym time again, of course. Get my power & stamina up 1st. I don't give a fuk about ground fighting either, really. uck that. I just wanna KO mofuggas. If I can. & I know I can. I'm like my buddy, that's doin it in the ring now. Way chilled out since my punk-kid days. (never was a punk, literally)lol..but I wouldn't jump off on someone unless I absolutely had to these days. But in the ring. I think that'd be fun. good stuff. healthy release. ya know?

I say do it man!! If you are just looking to do it for fun, you got the plan. But if you want to get serious about being truly competitive, I would say you should learn at least the basics of defense on the ground. But to each his own....have fun man and keep us updated on what you decide! I wish I would have decided about 12 years ago to jump into MMA.
