Anyway, the helmet really is just to prevent a skull fracture, because it is the brain shear forces that cant be prevented. Its like the brain is floating inside the skull and it sort of bounces off the inside of the skull..then the shear forces actually rip the brain. They are saying that the worst brain damage doesnt even have to come from a concussion. It is the # of blows that matter. So there might be a hit count in football like pitchers in baseball have pitch counts. They did a research study on a high school football team. The brain damage was way worse than they expected.
That's pretty much what I was saying. What the helmet is made of would not necessarily make the damage any less. I read a crap load about the effects on the brain when I did research for an article a few years ago. Stopping the head from the jerking motion is about the only way to help. The best way to do that was strengthening the neck muscles and even that only helps so much

Thats for sure. Thats why a guy with a thick neck can take a punch way better than someone with a scrawny neck

Didnt a lot of guys used to wear those big neck pad things that kept there head from snapping back? I think they were real popular in the 80's or maybe even earlier but I rarely ever see them now. I wonder if those actually helped?

Thing that sucks with me is I have a metal plate in my head with these metal clips that keep it in place and I'm blind in my left eye. My optic nerve got damage from my accident when I was 3. So when I spar I try to tell the guys dont throw a right hook because I cant see it coming. They all know so they just throw other punches and kicks.my first instructor knew this but this butt head would throw it all the time. I dont know why he would do that knowing sometimes I cant see it coming. When I first started with him he was a skinny dude and I was a big 220 guy with muscles, lol so he thought he had to always prove something by really going after me. Well the good thing was I held me own but my wife baby would always ***** and say wtf another black eye and I would say I dont know why he does it knowing I cant se well out of that eye but oh well it never bothered me because I have to pay my dues and in the begining I didnt know what the punches were going to be like and we didnt wear head gear and I found out the hard way. But I never went down.

Ya know Im a 20 year practitioner of wing chun kung fu- Do you have any schools in your area? Normally they dont advertise- the reason why I say is they practice a series of two man sensitivity and reflex exercises that you can learn very quickly- called chi sao - or sticky /rolling hands- eventually you rely on touch and feel as oppose to sight. There is no exercise quite like it in the world of martial arts. You got the facing style lineage of Yip Man and the Ku lao villiage /pin sun meaning turning body style. Unlike many of the chinese styles they got depending on the style zero to three froms or kata. The entire fighting is based on these live drills. It would enhance your kick boxing no doubt
