  • Batista may follow Brock and Lashley

According to legendary WWE commentator Jim Ross, Dave Batista could be the latest professional wrestler headed to the violent world of mixed martial arts.

Here is what J.R. posted on his official blog:

“Speaking of MMA, I’ve heard some rumblings that when Batista gets healthy that he might try his hand in the MMA world. This rumor is FAR from official but I do know that Batista has been doing some MMA training and has a bona fide interest in the genre.

This would be a huge challenge for Batista if he indeed attempts to compete in MMA at a high level which, again, is not a done deal.”
If Batista decides to pursue an MMA career, one of the many issues the 41-year-old will be forced to address is his ridiculously chiseled physique.

In August 2007, Batista was accused of juicing after an ESPN article released the names of several wrestlers that were clients of Signature Pharmacy of Orlando, Florida, one of many pharmacies under investigation for filling illegal prescription drugs.

Batista vehemently denied being a customer of Signature and stated that he has been “tested regularly by the WWE, and I am in full compliance with the WWE Wellness Program.” The WWE reportedly suspended ten wrestlers named in the controversy, however Batista was not one of them.

UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar and Strikefoce’s Bobby Lashley made the jump to MMA a few years ago and have done surprisingly well for themselves, particularly Lesnar.
I told you guys that I saw Batista training at Randy's gym. This guys is a HOSS. I wonder what kind of skill level he has if any other than wrestling?

I don't know about this one though. After reading the article again, I noticed that he is 42! That is a bad time to start in this sport with no kind of wrestling pedigree or any MMA training. I don't foresee him doing nearly as well as Brock.

Enough is enough with famous wrestlers, athletes, and street fighters coming to the UFC. The strong man champion Pudzianowski proved that he is a worthless fighter just as Kimbo Slice did too. Brock stepped in due to his fame and went straight to the UFC after one fight in MMA. However, I will give Brock credit in that he is a skilled wrestler and trains hard, thus he has done very well. But Brock is still young enough to contend for several years and improve his game. Conversely, Batista is already too old, and he is not a trained fighter. Furthermore, he would be out of wind in the first round due to the muscle mass he carries. This is a joke and it damages the reputation of the UFC. If they want to work on getting new fighters in the ring they should start with Fedor, someone who is proven and could add to the number of highly skilled MMA fighters in the UFC.

I agree with most of this except the part that it damages the reputation of the UFC. I actually think the opposite is true. I think having the boxers, strongman guys, WWE guys, etc....come over and try it out really solidifies the skill level that the MMA guys are at. When these guys (that have given the impression that they are really badass tough guys in their respective sports) come over and fight "real fighters" and get destroyed by the lower level guys, then that just proves that the MMA personnel are the real deal. Brock was different because of his conditioning and his wrestling background. Wrestling is considered a discipline of MMA so he basically had MMA training in his background. Add that with the fact that he is abnormally large with freakishly fast speed and you have a tough guy to beat. His is one in a million though. And I think he has given a false impression to the other athletes coming over that MMA is easier than it really is. All of these guys see him doing this and they think they can too....until they step in the cage.

Very true, but also they should have to prove themselves in a lower level of MMA before being admitted to the UFC.

I'm surprised that Batista is going to take that route. When he announced his resignation last week on RAW, I guessed that either it was just a ploy for the show or that he was going to TNA Wrestling as most of the former WWE wrestlers have done.
