  • Lesnar says Mir/Carwin fight for "make-believe" belt

UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar said Friday morning that he's completely healthy after a bout with diverticulitis caused him to miss a few months of training, and he said he'll be watching on Saturday night when Frank Mir and Shane Carwin battle at UFC 111 over an interim heavyweight title that Lesnar dismissed as "a make-believe belt."

"I'm 100 percent recovered," Lesnar told Josh Elliott in an interview on SportsCenter. "I've been able to step back and re-evaluate my life and re-evaluate my training, and I'm on track. I'm excited for Saturday night to see these two big heavyweights battle it out for the interim championship, and the winner of those two guys I'm looking forward to fighting in mid-summer."

Asked about the status of the Mir-Carwin fight as an interim heavyweight title, Lesnar didn't seem to find that distinction particularly important.

"That was a business decision that the UFC had to make," Lesnar said. "Really, that belt is a make-believe belt to satisfy the company and to satisfy the people in the heavyweight division. I'm still the heavyweight champion."

Regarding Mir's comments that he'd like Lesnar to die due to Octagon-related injuries, Lesnar said he dislikes Mir -- but not because of those comments.

"What's said outside of the Octagon is all purely entertainment," Lesnar said. "I dislike Frank -- there isn't an opponent in the Octagon that I really truly like. That's the battle of competition. I'm not a grudge-holder, but the first and foremost thing to me is, When I get in that Octagon I respect no one. And that's the bottom line for me."

Lesnar stopped short of predicting a Mir-Carwin winner, but he did say that if Mir is correct when describing Carwin as a better version of Lesnar, then Mir has no chance.

"If Shane Carwin is a better version of Brock Lesnar, then the fight's over in the first 30 seconds -- I feel bad for Frank," Lesnar said. "Frank has a history of putting his foot in his mouth and let's just see what happens Saturday night. I'm anxious to fight either one of those opponents. Both of them I've got some history with. ... I can sit back and watch and let these guys fight over who wants to come after Brock Lesnar, the UFC heavyweight champion."
I agree with Brock that the whole Interim belt thing is crazy now that he is back. But at the time, the UFC didn't know how long he would be out or if he was coming back. Either way, it will have the same results.

Here is Brock saying that he respects no one again. He said it when he first came into the UFC, then he backed down from his remarks, and now he is saying it again. I don't which is worse, his comments or Mir's...

Really? I haven't had a chance to see them. Yeah, Carwin is huge so if Mir looked comparable, that is good. I think Mir is smart enough to beat Carwin if he can avoid the heavy hands.

I'm glad to hear that he was lean.

Holy crap man!!!! Mir looks better than he has ever looked! Even in his last fight he looked a little heavy, but he looked lean as hell at the weigh-ins! I am officially pumped now!

Not like this. I am not saying that he is going to fight any different. I am just saying the guy has put size on the correct way. He is bigger now that he has been and he is way leaner than he has been. That is all I'm saying.
