    Phil Baroni signs with the UFC

    Man what a contender for GSP!!! Baroni used to be a stud!!

    Phil Baroni has verbally agreed to a contract with the UFC, according to a source close to the fighter. The veteran welterweight’s potential signing will undoubtedly raise a few eyebrows as well as shed some light on the brewing feud between the UFC and rival promotion Strikeforce.

    According to an MMAJunkie.com report, the UFC has also signed Dennis Hallman, another former Strikeforce fighter. A source close to the UFC intimated more signings might be on the horizon as fighters complete their Strikeforce contracts.

    Strikeforce matchmaker Bob Cook confirmed to Sherdog.com that Baroni was released from his Strikeforce contract in the past few days and would be free to sign with another promotion.

    Baroni (13-11) dropped a unanimous decision to Joe Riggs in St. Louis in June. He had won three bouts in a row before the loss.

    dude that guy can't hang with GSP your crazy if you think that he is a strong contender for GSP

      Probably not now....I said he was a stud BACK IN THE DAY!! I can guarantee that GSP would have to get him on the ground to win. Baroni would knock his a** out standing.

        GSP needs to man up and see what he can do at 185. He is twice the size of everyone at 170....easy wins.

            ****in right dude.Lets see what gsp is really made of. Bj did it and won the belt at 170 against hughes . lets see if gsp can hang with henderson or silva. also is phil still on steroids

              That's even worse than GSP/Baroni. Did you see what Anderson did to Forrest? Forrest would beat the crap out of GSP.

              Everyone keeps saying they want to se GSP/Silva....why? Anderson would pick him apart and make him look like he was a newbie. GSP is no where near the level of Anderson.

                i have different thought and we never now until they face off. i think it would be a perfect fight. Maybe not for his first fight at 185 but after a couple it would be fantastic

                  You have your opinion and I have mine. I would like to see it just to prove everyone wrong. I really like GSP...he is my 2nd favorite. But I really think that his size over everyone at 170 makes him look much better than he actually is. And I think it is absurd to rank him in the P4P along side Anderson

                    i think at 185 he would ground and pound silva he would have to get use to fighting at that weight but it has been shown that silva has weak takedown defense if you can get in on him and we all know that gsp has some of the best takedowns there are. Also i think he would have better endurance. If it hit the mat it would be a done deal for silva.

                      HAHA!!!! Come on man, this is just crazy!! Lutter would eat GSP alive on the mat and look what happened to him. Anderson is a much better BJJ practicioner than GSP. Anderson would be bigger and stronger than GSP. Anderson is faster than GSP with a MUCH MUCH better chin that GSP. I don't think that GSP could withstand his standup. You don't think Anderson would be looking for the TD? Henderson got him on the ground and look what happened. GSP has shown that his chin is weak and Anderson rarely misses strikes. My thoughts, Anderson would eat GSP alive on the feet and if it went to the ground....GSP still couldn't do anything.

                      You are giving GSP WAYYYYYY too much credit here man!

                        james dude cmon man lets be realistic here thats not even a remotely good answer dude. Thats even worse then me saying the fight was fixed between forest and silva. gsp's bjj isnt that all good. and yes gsp's chin has egg in it

                              baroni.... is a great bar brawler.... dude has the worlds smallest gas tank... he should stick to parking lot fighitng.
                              before the game evovled phil did well.. just like guys like tank abbot did well. those days are long gone. oh and not to mention his impressive 13-11 record.
