With Dana White expected to at least announce the official return of Tito Ortiz on Friday’s much anticipated conference call, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell is asking for everyone’s support in setting up a third fight between the two rivals.
“Sign me up to kick titos ass again,” Liddell Tweeted yesterday.
Liddell owns a pair of TKO victories over Ortiz, with the UFC 47 win in 2004 setting the tone for his dominating title run. The rematch went down at UFC 66 in 2006, with Liddell looking even more impressive than in their first tango.
Liddell continued his petition efforts earlier this morning by Tweeting, “Thanks for everyone’s support in setting up a third fight with Tito. Thanks for reposting the message. Keep it up.”
UFC president Dana White Tweeted last week that he and Tito had in fact made up, to which Ortiz quickly responded via his own Twitter account saying, “yeah, me and [Dana White] made up. I’m expecting to be inside the Octagon again soon. thanks for the support guys – I appreciate it.”
It may seem a little curious after Liddell’s two dominating victories over Ortiz that the UFC would even consider putting together a third bout, but with Liddell nearing retirement and Ortiz still being a big draw, the fight makes sense from a few standpoints.
Their UFC 66 battle remains the organization’s biggest attendance and revenue generator, garnering12,191 fans for a live gate of $5,397,300 inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“The Iceman” is coming off of TKO loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 97. The former face of the UFC has dropped four of his last five contests.
Ortiz, on the other hand, hasn’t competed since his UFC 84 loss to current UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. The 34-year-old has gone 0-2-1 in his last three fights.

I'm sure he does. There is no sense in this fight really. I mean, Chuck just seems to be looking for an easy win because he beat him twice. What if Tito comes in and beats him in this match? Where would that put Chuck then? It will make money, but I can't say that I would really be excited to watch it.
