  • BJ wants to see how good he can get!

I hope we see the best BJ EVER against Kenny!!!

Despite opinions to the contrary, BJ Penn states he trains hard and is committed to becoming the best fighter possible.

In the wake of UFC 100, there has been a surprising lack of attention cast to the lightweight title bout that awaits us when BJ Penn and kenny Florian square off at UFC 101. Both men have admitted to training hard for the upcoming contest though and Penn once again stated that he is looking to turn shirk the image that he relies on his natural ability alone and is now trying to fulfil his true potential.

"I wanted to take it [training] more serious. I wanted to see you know how far can I get, how good can I get," stated Penn to the Hawaii lifestyle site 'Around Hawaii'. "You know it's constantly evolving, it still isn't finished yet, and I don't think it ever will be. Every time you get into a new training camp, you try new methods and you try to improve and that's just how it goes. I don't think there's ever an end-all say-all this is it, this is how you train for a fight."

Regarding his current regime, Penn said he was 'making sure not to overtrain', which could cause alarm bells to ring as excessive training is not something Penn has been known for. He backs it up saying he is feeling great and has brought in some top tier guys to maximise his efforts.

"We started a couple months ago, and I'm training with Marv Marinovich, and we'll be spending our last 8 weeks in California with a bunch of good training partners, with Marv Marinovich there, Jason Parillo will be there, Rudy Valentino's gonna fly up, so I feel VERY good about this training camp."

Marinovich is certainly a trainer Penn puts a lot of faith in and holds in high esteem.

"Marv is just amazing," announced Penn, continuing, "You know, I don't want to get into everything that he does but it's just his fundamentals for making somebody get to a much better athletic performance, it's just amazing how he tackles athletic problems. He really is, that guy's a genius."

At 155lbs we have seen Penn at his best and in the best shape so, for the benefit of the fans, I hope we see the Hawaiian in the shape of his life at UFC 101 because Florian will be.

Penn says knowing about Florian's strengths is part of the battle and he isn't too worried about gameplans going in, just that that he's " gonna try to submit him or knock him out the whole time." Get excited!
