  • my son had his first BJJ class last night.

they learned hip escape from being mounted and bridge reversal. as well as a couple hip escape drills "shrimping"

he had a big grin on his face the whole class, so did I.

there are only 3 kids in the class right now being taught by a well respected BJJ black belt so i see him advancing quickly with such close instruction.

being 10 years old and just shy of 5' tall i forsee a very formidable guard with those long legs.

i know i talk about my kid alot but he really is a great source of pride for me.

That's cool man! Getting him in early like that is great. My gf's kid is 7 and wants to take Shotokan Karate (Lyoto Machida). There is a place right by my house and we are thinking about putting him in the class. I think it will be cool for him to start with that and then move on to something else if he wants later on.

Congrats. I hope he sticks with it. I think martial arts teaches children so much more than just fighting!

first shotokan is great, my brother is a black belt and he is the only reason my striking is as good as it is (better than some bar tough but nowhere near a real fighter)

second my son started American karate at 7. he loved it until peewee football caught his eye.

they really push respect in those classes and IMO it is one of the best things a kid can do for their development at that age.

i say get your GFs kid into it as soon as possible. i feel one of the reasons my son is so respectful. a great benefit as the child grows into an adult

Great news jipped. I tried to get my little girl into bjj.We did a one day free trial and no way did she like it. Now she's inn taekwando and got her yellow belt a few weeks ago. they start ther young kids in this class called little ninjas. it gets you prepared for taekwando. she's doing very well. they have to leran 20 moves and she's got 8 down now.I thnk all young kids should do some type of martial arts.
