two. In the other corner, mixed martial arts’ most recognizable face and the biggest challenge for anyone with a perfect record.
It’s a palatial showcase of ‘Sugar’ and ‘Ice’ that should mix like southern tea in Atlanta, and with both ‘Sugar’ Rashad Evans and Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell experiencing career upswings, this fight will ‘breakthrough’ the doldrums, leaving a legend tarnished or perfection denied.
Evans is ready for this Saturday night.
“He’s the most awkward fighter in all of mixed martial arts, and he’s a legend for what he’s done in the UFC and for the sport because of how popular he is,” said Evans of his opponent. “If it’s a popularity contest, he’ll have the fight hands down; too bad his hands can’t vote in and say who should win.”
After losing his belt to Quinton Jackson in May of 2007, Liddell is on the road back to the title, and he is fresh off a huge December win over Wanderlei Silva. Evans comes off a UFC 78 main event last November against Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Michael Bisping. A split decision kept Evans’ record unbeaten, but given the closeness of that verdict and a prior disappointing draw against Tito Ortiz fight, a win over the Iceman would be the perfect statement.
