GSP may not fight again until 2009??

Georges St. Pierre may not fight again this year, according to comments that he made to the French-Canadian sports network website RDS.ca. St. Pierre spoke of the grind of fighting so many times in a short period, as well of his hopes to fight in Montreal again soon. From the UFC Welterweight Champion himself;

“Several people mentioned that my next opponent should be BJ Penn. Nothing is obviously signed yet, but fighting him is my number one goal. I think he deserves a chance to challenge for my belt, but we’ll see what happens in the coming weeks. I hope deeply [that my next fight is in Montreal]. The President of the UFC, Dana White, said he would like to return to Montreal before the end of the year. For my part, I do not know if I will go back in the Octagon before 2009. I had four fights in the past 12 months. So I need rest. I like my life, but sometimes I have to relax…. I make so many sacrifices for me prepare. During training camps I can hardly live. Therefore, I need to refuel psychologically.”

For now it sounds like the proposed end of the year match between St. Pierre and BJ Penn might not take place as has been rumored and hoped by MMA fans and journalists alike. It will be interesting to hear if St. Pierre still feels the same way in a month or so.

I hope the fight happens in December like originally thought

I think he knows that he needs more time to prepare for BJ. BJ has changed from the old days and GSP knows how focused he is now compared to his focus back then. I'm not saying that GSP is scared. I am just saying that I don't think GSP feels he is ready for BJ that quick.

cmon I have $100 ON BJ TO WIN,ANY TAKERS.PLUS LETS MAKE IT MORE INTERESTING FOR YOU GSP LOVERS. IF YOU GUYS THINK GSP WILL KNOCK OUT BJ IN THE FIRST ROUND THEN BET ME A $100 EVERY ROUND BJ MAKES IT THROUGH UNLESS YOU THINK IT WILL GO THE DISTANCE.

I agree with alot of points in this post. Numero Uno.....FUZO.... is right, they are both champions and this should take place in nuetral territory....Not Montreal or Hawaii for that matter.

Number 2...TN94Z is dead on, as many including myself mentioned in another post. BJ Penn has rededicated his life to the sport. He was so talented that he just took his ability for granted before, now with focus....I dont believe he is a fighter that GSP can be ready for in any weight class in a matter of 3 months. I am still taking Penn in this one.

The break will be good for GSP. If he prepares well, he should beat be BJ!
