    Re: UFC 87

[QUOTE=tn94z;854397] GSP is rated as one of the best P4P and BJ (really) beat him the first time they fought. GSPs face looked like he got hit by a Mack truck. The guy got his BJJ blackbelt in just 3 years and then went on to win the world championships soon after...QUOTE]

The judges gave GSP the win, and I agree with it... he didnt get "beat up", he had one nasty lump on his face, but it was from ONE shot, not his whole face beat up..

his BJJ blackbelt and world champs cant even be brought into the picture... this isnt BJJ, its MMA... Jeff Monson is probably the best grappler in the world at hevyweight, that doesnt mean he's he best in MMA, although he has a better MMA record then Penn does...

                    Re: UFC 87

BJ is one of the top PFP fighters out there. I think a lot of people get confused what PFP means.

Penn is right there along side of Fedor. Just my opinion though.
If he actually trained like he did the first time he fought Hughes he is #1. Nah... Fedor is will always be #1 until he loses. BJ #2.

But I guess we will see come Dec IF GSP can get by Fitch.

It would be nice to see Faber come to the UFC but I don't see that happening.

I just know come Dec there are going to be some blockbuster fights in both the UFC and Affliction events.

We might even get the Couture - Fedor match. You never know.

You are right, this isn't BJJ, it is MMA which includes BJJ and BJ is the best at that. BJJ, whether you want to admit it or not, is a VERY big part of MMA. I mean if it wasn't then why does everyone make such a big deal out of it? It is the biggest aspect of MMA. The majority of the fights go to the ground and if you don't know BJJ then you are getting beat, bottom line. Not to mention that BJ has some of the top standup. I mean come on!! You are about the only person out of all of my MMA forums that I am a member of that doesn't consider BJ one of the top fighters. Everyone has their opinion, but that opinion is in a very small minority and I have still heard no backup for your argument. Anyone can speculate at how BJs training was in the past....all I know is the proof I have seen. He said he wasn't training in the past and he got beat...now he says he is training harder than ever, and he he has played with the last few TOP NOTCH fighters and beat them very easily. It sounds like you are just a BJ hater.

As for Fedor, I am back and forth on him. I really like him but until he fights some stiffer competition, I will not be convniced that he is number 1 P4P. I want to see him fight Barnett again, etc...

And as far as Jeff Monson being so awesome at BJJ....watch the grappling match with him and Kenny Florian who is much smaller. I would be willing to bet that BJ would out grapple Monson anyway. Monson sucks at MMA no matter what his record is...he always has.

The judges gave GSP the win, and I agree with it... he didnt get "beat up", he had one nasty lump on his face, but it was from ONE shot, not his whole face beat up..
One lump from one shot? Even GSP admits more than that. IN GSPs interview he said that he took way too many punches from BJ....that doesn't sound like one shot. BJs boxing was sloppy as hell in this fight. It is 10 times better now that it was.

                        Re: UFC 87

There are so many polls out that have BJ as a top P4P fighter. The latest one I have seen has Silva on top, Fedor next(the only top 10 fighter he has fought in 3 years was Tim Sylvia...give me a break), BJ, and then GSP. Here is a quote from Bas Ruten:
"I look at their records, and I look at people who are able to submit and knock [opponents] out," Rutten said. "I say B.J. Penn is the person who can do that 50-50 percent. ... He's known for his jiu-jitsu and then I see him boxing, and he's boxing like a world champion. ... If you can pull off a victory by way of submission or knockout -- whatever your opponent gives you -- I say you're the true champion."
"He woke up because I kept punching him in the face." --Thiago Alves
