    Liddell Looking Toward Title Shot After Rashad



    During a recent chat with MMANews.com, “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell responded to a question regarding where he thinks he stands in terms of getting another crack at the light-heavyweight crown:

    “After I beat Rashad I think I deserve the next title shot.”

    Liddell went on to discuss Anderson Silva’s venture into the light heavyweight division, as well as a hypothetical match up between the two:

    “Anderson Silva is a tough fighter. If anyone can move up and do it I think he could do it. It’s another 20 lbs to him, so it’s a big jump. I think there are a lot of good fights for him at 205…Sure, it could be a good fight but I think I’m too big for him. He’s a tough fighter and I have all the respect in the world for him but I think I’d be too much for him.”

    So there you have it. Chuck thinks that a win over the underwhelming Rashad Evans should put him next in line for a title shot, and believes that he would be able to handle “The Spider” at 205 pounds. I don’t know that I agree with Liddell on either matter, but confidence is always a vital commodity for a fighter. Liddell is also pretty chummy with Dana White, so who knows, maybe he will get that ever-sought-after title shot sooner than later. Don’t they always say its not what you know…

    I have heard that the winner of the Liddell/Rashad fight will get the next title shot. I think that it should be Machida since the guy is UNDEFEATED!!!! But what do I know...I mean Liddell has been smoked two times by Rampage. Forrest (who I think is going to win the fight this weekend via submission) has been beat also. I know Machida isn't as exciting as these two, but they are going to have to give him a chance sooner or later. Forest said that he wants no part of Machida...that should tell the UFC something.

      Machida is a tough matchup for anyone... I cant say that Rampage "smoked" Chuck twice.. once, yeah, but Pride is sooo much different too... and anyone can get caught on the chin at anytime... I think the winner should be Silva, IF he wins, then that person gets the title shot

        Liddell got smoked in the UFC....and he took a 30 minute "beating" in Pride. That was one of the worst beatings I have seen....so in my opinion he got smoked twice. I agree that anyone can get caught at any time....but when you get caught that quick and you get ko'd that quick.....you got smoked.
