Not necessarily!! You have to look at longevity...Yeah you can tap out if say your in a arm bar, anle lock, leg lock, or something is going to get snapped!! And you cant fight for months maybe a whole year, not smart. Now what he means is when in a trinagle choke, rear naked choke or a guillotine choke, some will just let themselves pass out as if it makes them tougher...So there are certain submissions that you have to tap out and you dont...My view is your ass got beat TAP OUT, why risk further damage that could postpone later fights that make you money....

I agree 100% with this wise man! That is exactly how I feel about it. I'm not going to risk something tearing or breaking, I would tap and train my ass off to defend that submission so I'm never in that place again. One thing about most locks is you can train to counter them or block them, but some chokes, once set, are pretty hard to get out of unless your opponent is tired or you are so sweaty that you can slip out. More time than not, if you get a rear naked choke set on you, you aren't getting out. The only ones that get out are the ones that aren't set in all the way. That's why it's called submission, there's no other choice but to give up.
As for the question, I'd rather tap than be knocked out personally. I've never been knocked out in my life but I knocked several people out (were talking street fights and bar fights, not organized fighting) and not only do you take the shot that traumatizes you enough to knock you out but you also hit the ground hard and could get even more trauma if your head hits really hard.
I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.
i dont think Ed's comment was on. it is acceptable in MMA to tap out. you loose no face if you do. i would rather be choked out than KO'd less physical damage
