Well, my step-son has been playing youth football for a few weeks now and I couldn't be more PROUD of how well he has done!!! He is one of the bigger kids on his team so he got stuck on the line instead of QB/RB like he wanted. So I explained to him how important the line was and told him to play his best no matter what position he played. Well, he does very well blocking on the o-line. And he also plays on the defensive line as well. At first, he thought he was just supposed to tie up with the offensive lineman in front of him. So I had to explain that his focus was to get to the ball as fast as possible. I also showed him a few moves to get away from his blocker. After this....MAN!!! This kid gets in the back field before the QB can even get moving. He has had 5-6 sacks so far. About the same amount of tackles and when he doesn't get the tackle, just him getting in the back field so fast disrupts the play. He is doing AWESOME!!!
Well, last week at practice, they move him to QB (because he is a lefty) for some pass plays where they roll to the left. It is just easier for him than the RH kid having to turn and throw. He does good in practice and remembers what he is supposed to do. So this past Saturday, they started him at QB for the first time, and they drive right down the field and score. Then the other team scores as well. Next offensive possession, same thing. And then he gets to keep the ball and run it up the middle for the extra point (they don't kick FG's in the youth league). This was his first points ever. After the half, they come back out and run 2 handoffs to the RBs, then he gets it up the middle again and busts out for a 30 yard TD run!! Man, my heart was pumping like crazy and my adrenaline shot up!!! I was so happy when he scored that TD!! With all this good stuff being said, they are 0-2, but they played VERY well last week. They are just a smaller team than the others. Here is a pic of him breaking out the run:

Now if I can just get him to put some more POP in his hits, he is going to be something else in the youth leagues!
