  • 5 Reasons The Saints Will Win

Fans of the New Orleans Saints believe AskMen.com has been pretty harsh with regards to the 2009 NFC champs. First, the claim was that the Saints couldn't go undefeated and win the Super Bowl. Check. Next, the argument was that the Saints needed to take things personally and gut out a difficult win if they wanted to win a Super Bowl. Check.

Now, men and women of New Orleans, get ready to hold on to your seats. AskMen.com is providing you with five reasons why the Saints will win the Super Bowl --as ordained by destiny.

    1- It’s time

The New Orleans Saints were founded on All Saints’ Day in 1967. A backroom deal between a congressman and Pete Rozelle added a team to the “Eastern Conference,” brokering a vote for the AFL-NFL merger.

Since that time, the Saints have been to the playoffs on only seven occasions. In those seven trips, the "Who Dats" have one conference championship -- this year's win over Brett Favre and the Vikings. The Saints are one of only three non-expansion teams to never win any sort of league championship. The Bills won a couple of premerger AFL championships and even the Detroit Lions had a period of success in the ‘50s.

The team that ensured a Super Bowl could be possible has never won one.

    The time is now.

2- It's time to pass the mantle

In Super Bowl XII, former Cowboy, Craig Morton, returned to Dallas with the “Orange Crush” Broncos. He had led the Cowboys to a Super Bowl loss seven years earlier. Although the game was well-hyped, Craig Morton fell flat on his face and the Cowboys won 27-10.

    Why mention this here?

For years, the name most associated with the Saints quarterback position was Archie Manning. The QB patriarch was drafted in 1971. In 10 years with the team, Manning accomplished a less-than-stellar 35-91-3 record.

    Now, Manning's son returns.
Peyton has been much more successful than his father, but he is Indianapolis' QB... not New Orleans’.

The mantle of New Orleans QB needs to be handed over to a winner.

The Saints are already planning on making Drew Brees an offer to stay in New Orleans for the rest of his career. Destiny just has to make him a winner.

    3- This team deserves it

No one wanted this Saints team.

Drew Brees was cast off from San Diego.
Reggie Bush was passed over by Houston. Jonathan Vilma was expendable as a Jet. Pierre Thomas wasn't considered a draftable NFL prospect. Marques Colston was drafted... in the seventh round.

Only so many bad breaks can happen to a group of young men. Right? Right?

So, a group of guys nobody wanted now has a home and a fan base with a fierce loyalty to its team. “Who Dat” is born again.

    4- The city deserves it

Speaking of bad breaks, New Orleans has had its share.

Now, it isn't right to sit here as a Yankee and cheapen the recent trials and tribulations of the New Orleans people. But let it be said that they have been through enough.

A Super Bowl win doesn't repair the damage of Hurricane Katrina. A Saints victory will not repair infrastructure, homes, schools, or churches. A championship will not restore lost memories, careers, lives, or loved ones.

But, if any city deserves some happiness, some respite, some success, it’s New Orleans.

5- It doesn't make any sense

The Saints shouldn't win this Super Bowl. The odds are against them. The Colts have better players at almost every position. Peyton Manning is the better quarterback. Joseph Addai is the better running back. Reggie Wayne is the better wide receiver. Indianapolis has the better defense.

Don't get angry, Saints fans. Those aren't subjective opinions. Those are objective truths -- and that's OK.

Pundits don't think the Saints should win and Vegas doesn't think the Saints should win. Not many people thinking with their heads believe the Saints should win.

The better team doesn't always win. Some teams have more heart, more desire, more... destiny.

I think if the Saints can score alot early they will win, but if they fart around and Manning figures out their gameplan then it could get messy.

its going to be a boring game. Sure I want the saints, but they have no chance at all. Im planning on leaving at halftime because Im sure the score will be 35-0 colts at halftime...I will be in the mountains and its supposed to snow so I dont want to be driving in the dark in th e snow. so, when the colts get up 35-0, Im going to leave and head home. Thats the plan, and Im sticking to it...lol

            Hey Dzone!

            Hope you are doing well.

I have to politely disagree with you, I DO think the Saints have a chance, and I believe they will win!

I think it will be a very close game, but the Saints CAN do it!

Have fun in the mountains, be safe, we are supposed to get quite a bit of snow tomorrow night.
