According to the Los Angeles Times, Dodgers' star Manny Ramirez will be suspended 50 games for using performance enhancing drugs.
Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY has also confirmed the Times story.
The suspension is expected to be announced today and last until July 3.
The story by reporters Bill Shaikin and Dylan Hernandez says the slugger is expected to blame the positive test on a medication he took.
Manager Joe Torre and GM Ned Colletti said they were unaware of any suspension and Ramirez's agent Scott Boras declined comment.
Ramirez is batting .348 with six home runs for the Dodgers, who have the best record in baseball at 21-8.
He signed a two-year, $45 million deal with the Dodgers in the spring. The suspension will cost him $7.7 million.
The Ramirez situation differs from that of Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees' superstar admitted failing a drug survey test in 2003 but players were not penalized for those tests.
Ramirez is certainly the most famous player to be suspended under the testing program agreement that came after the 2003 survey.
