I think it was a comination of many things but he was a contributer. Early on, he trained hard and was focused. Later it seemed like he expected to win.
It is a shame because I always bet against him when an apponent had long reach. Bet $500 on Mitch Greene at 35:1, lost that of course but when the Buster Douglas fight came along the line hit 42:1 I had my $500 ready to plop down but kept waiting because the line was rising so fast. Then casinos started closing betting 2 hours before the fight. I ran around like a chicken without a head to other casinos and all the same. Called NY to place it with a book and he offered 20:1 (told shim tyo go shiet in his hat). That would have been a nice hit. The boys still talk about it telling me how I should have bet at 40:1... Yeah, hindsight is always 20/20.

When Mike was younger, he was a mess. Cuss D'Amato took Tyson in and raised him and polished Tyson to what he became in his earlier days. A respectable great fighter. Tyson respected Cuss like a father figure. If Cuss told Tyson to jump, he never even asked how high. He just did it, because D'Amato told him to. Tyson loved the guy more than anyone. After Cuss passed away, Tyson felt like he lost the world. Then, King moved in and started to corrupt Mike. Love Don or hate him, the man is a genious. He knew what it took to get butts in the seats to watch Mike. But he truely did ruin Mike. D'Amato was rolling over in his grave.
