I talked with a sprts writer I am friends with at the gym today and he told me they are looking to trade Kris Jenkins for another first round pick. They would like to pick up a safety and a D lineman. Would you give up Jenkins, a pro-bowler, for a rookie D lineman?
They are also looking to do something with Keyshawn.
As long as ATL gets that kid from LSU I don't care what Carolina does. LOL
Yeah, it's so tough to tell what motivates these teams. ATL has a track record for letting very good back up QB's go. First, Glanville lets Brett Favre go because he said Favre would not work in a West Coast offense. Now, they let Schaub go. For what, a running back who can't hold the ball, who can't take a hit and from time to time will make a completion. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the fact DJ Shockley is number two now because when Vick gets hurt, and he will, Schokley will be able to show ATL fans what a QB that can run and pass really looks like. After watching Shockley lead UGA to a SEC championship in his first year as a starter I think he underrated.
Anyways, to get back on track, lol, it all depends. If you have a big hole in the D line then that pro bowler is not going to do you any good if keep lossing games due to that hole. But, if it's something that could be fixed with a change in LB personal, then I say keep the pro bowler. But, just look at ATL, they let Kerney go, WTF? That was just plain dumb. I could be wrong, maybe their back up has something I don't know but I think they should have kept a proven DE. A healthy Kerney and healthy Abrham would bring havok on any team. Now, they lose the outside pressure and still have the hole at safety. So, what do you do?
And, if I was them, (not that I want them to because I'm an ATL guy) but I would keep Keyshawn. Losing him would make them a one threat team again. Heck, I think Dallas was dumb for letting him go. Take last years Dallas team with Romo and have TO and Keyshawn as the number 1 and 2. Yeah, that's a whole different offense right there. Those two guys would spread the field so much that they would have had two RBs run for over 1,500 yards. No team can cover deep and run at the same time very effectively. But, Dallas had some kind of motivation for that move and what ever it was, I don't agree with it. They could have easily been in the NFC championship maybe even the SB with those two guys.
Teams do things based on stuff they never tell us.
I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.
not too impressed with the panthers moves lately...
Their philosophy is that they have a good core group of players and all of the free agents that have signed so far have been way over priced. They would like to build through the draft which is what they plan on doing with the Jenkins trade. Plus they don't have a lot of room under the cap to bring in the big names. Is it right or wrong? I guess we will see next season.

Jenkins is a solid player, but he was bitten by the injury bug recently, wasn't he? He's great with over 130 tackles in 7 seasons, but once them DL get the injurues going, they're almost like a train derailing year after year. Jevon Kearse is a good example.
As for Keyshawn, I don't think the demand would be to high for him now a days. 11 seasons in the NFL. Not to stellar numbers in Carolina. Had problems with coaches in the past. I can't see him getting a signing bonus he would want. And no matter how much he wants, it's not enough to cover his ego.

According to Sorensen, the writer I am friends with, Jenkins is very out of shape. He plays at just above 300 but right now is at close to 400 with no signs of stopping. I was him at a Sushi place down town and he acted like it was his first meal in weeks. Plus, you are dead on with the injury thing.
As for Keyshawn, you are exactly right. There is no way a team is going to pay him what HE thinks he is worth. Believe it or not the front office is still mad that he didn't step up and take the blame for the interception Delhomme threw in the endzone during the Philidelphia game. Keyshawn clearly cut his route short but then hung Jake out there after the game. He'll probably just be released before the draft.
Yeah, Keyshawn would have been good in Dallas and looks like he`d be a good keeper in Carloina. He actually had pretty good numbers this year when Smith got that knee injury, even after smith returned he kept his production up because defenses roll coverage to Smith all the time.
But
Keyshawn`s biggest problem is Keyshawn. Coaches never love complainers.
