There's gotta be a couple good choices here for this question. Honestly, I think the best backup in the NFL belongs to us Eagles fans. Jeff Garcia is a guy who's been to the game before. He's past his prime, but can still get the job done. He'll never lead a team again, but if McNabb goes down, he's the guy I want behind McNabb. He's cool and calm, and has experience. Yet he's not washed up or over the hill.
***Notable mention as best backup in the NFL- Matt Schaub

I think Matt Schaub is the best back-up in the league. He moved the ball better than Vick did but wont get the shot because everyone sucks Vicks weenie so much. Its OK because the Panthers have figured out how to stop Vick so Id rather see him
Nall is also going to be a good pick up for Buffalo. He might even get the starting spot.

Yes, I would take Nall out of the equation. I said he was going to be the starter since Buffalo picked him up day 1. If you look at his competition, how Nall's college performance was, and who he sat back up to for 4 years, he'll be the starter.

I'm not so sure about Garcia AOM. Not to look too deep into the dreaded detroit lions BUT he had all the weapons he could want and one of the better TE's in the game in Pollard. I'm not saying that he is done by any means, just that i think you may be going out on a limb when picking him. He's had 3-4 seriously BAD years of late...i'm not so sure about him.
My top 3 backups.
1.Billy Volec
2.Matt Shaub
3.Trent Dilfer- This is where you all laugh at me but please hear me out. I'm in a postition as a niner fan to really like the acquisition of Dilfer. IMO he is better than the Starting Alex Smith. Not to say that i think Dilfer is great or will be a pro bowler, just that he is better than Smith.
To me you want a guy you dont worry about coming inot the game, a guy that can take the game on his shoulders and lead his team to victory. A guy that makes very few mistakes and a guy that knows how to come from behind to win. Setting all the mentoring aside, i feel that Dilfer is more capable of winning games than smith. That said, how is he not a top back up?

eh, i'm prolly grasping at straws lol
I'm not going to laugh at picking Dilfer. Actually, I'd rank Dilfer in my top 5. I'm laughing because you picked Volek! They called that guy "Hamburger Helper" in Tennessee. He's in you're selection, but you hope to God you never get desperate enough to use him!
I'll give him credit, he was decent at Fresno. But in the NFL, he's short and underweight. 6-2 and 210lbs isn't crap nowadays. He hasn't impressed me in ANY Tennessee games in 2004 or 2005. Although he's thrown less interceptions that Kyle orton. That's something to be proud of!

j/k bro.....We must be looking at two different qb's lol. and if not we are most definitely seeing two different things. I may be a little biased towards him as he's pulled me out of a few fantasy qb bye weeks but i do think he's much better than you think. That system in Tenn. is purely set for Mcnair. Voleck and McNair are totally different qbs. The fact that Voleck had as many good outings as he did, on a shitty team and supporting cast shows me he has what it takes to be a good qb. I love his touch and accuracy on the long ball! I wish i had a qb with that....
So heres somebody that nobody has mentioned, John Kitna. I know he may be landing a starting role in Det. but he is not slated as such as of yet. If ( for whatever reason) he gets the nod for back up i would have to say that he is the #1 back up out there. The year before Palmer took the reigns in Cinncy (2003) Kitna had a very solid season. he ended witha rating of 87.4, had 26tds, 3600 yards while only posting 15 int's... then he got to ride pine.

F U C K Kitna! that no good piece of crap. Behind the Eagles, the Bungles have been my tem since the Boomer days. I've seen them rise and fall over the years. But like a true fan, I've stuck with them. Kitna sucked in Seattle, and he sucked worse in Cincy. When Palmer went down the second play of the game against Pitssburgh, I knew my hope of seeing Cincy at the dance was done. Kitna ruined many a good WR career in Seattle, and he ruined Peter Warrick in Cincy. Look what Warrick did a Florida State. Under Kitna, he could do nothing. Warrick went to Seattle, now he's a stud. Serously Nate Dawg, I have nothing but dislike for Kitna. I would like to see someone like Heath Schuler or Shaun King come into a game before Kitna. Plus, he looks like a Neo **** skin head.

You sound more like a disgruntled fan that wont give him his due bc he couldn't provide you a SB victory. Seatle wr's? wtf aom seatle sucked all around when he was there. Cincy? you know he didn't "suck"....even tho you may want to believe that.
And bro, you knew that cincy had NO chance of winning that game when Palmer went down. Kitna actually did ok and kept them in the game better than most expected. A false ray of hope that many held on to even though they knew it was over.
Peter Warrick? lmao-----Don't even go there...
i'm going to enjoy talking qb's with you *i think* lol

I agree. Palmer is the real deal (for once). Look at the QB's in the past that went high in the draft. Before Palmer, who was the last high draft pick QB to have a winning season. It was Peyton Manning. Plus the fact that Cincy has 3 legitimate WR threats, plus a great RB. I was so happy when Corey Dillon tried to be a hard ass and wanted out in Cincy. I knew Rudi was gonna step up and be the man. Just like the Auburn days. Indianpolis is the real deal too. Lok at any team that has a GREAT QB, and you'll find great receivers on their squad. arrison was a stud before Manning ever came into the league. Reggie Wayne was destined to be a stud anyways. Take Miami, a great example. Chris Chambers could hands down be one of the top receivers in the league. However, he's had no one to throw to him. The only exception to the rule would be Anquan Bolden. However that guy has pulled his numbers has been by shear skill. Put him on a team like Cincy or Indi, and he's a 1500 yard receiver per year easily.

I say Matt Schaub. However, ATL was very smart in getting DJ Shockley from GA. He just as elusive as Vick running but his passing % was much better than Vick's in College. Also, he lead the SEC for most touchdowns in a season last year and won the Jonny Unitas award. Not bad for his first year as a starter. Also, he's 2 inches taller than Vick which will allow him to see better. I know people keep saying that Schaub will make a great trade but in all honesty, Vick would make a much better trade. There are plenty on teams that would give a first and second round pick for Vick. But like already mentioned, there is too much money and time invested in him. Statistically, he still has another two years before he should be expected to have the west coast offense down pat. Most experts say in takes 5 years to master it and he's had 3. So, we'll see.
I used to have superhuman powers....until my therapist took them away.
I don't think that vicks progression in learning the wco is where it should be at for the three years he's had. He's got the TE down pat but the TE is not your first read unless its a hot route. Vick focuses on Crumpler way too much. Personally i don't like their version of the wco and it shouldn't be called such. Its a far cry from having a pass equate to a run wich is how it originated.

Agreed! I'm very interested in seeing how Shockley plays. I'm a huge UGA fan and if there's one thing that UGA has lacked, it was a high caliber WR. I used to get so pissed off because those idiots would dropperfectly thrown passesevery damn game. It was aweful. If it weren't for UGA's runing game they would have sucked ass the last 5 years. Shockley is a very accurate passer he just had crappy WR's. Now that he's going to have some quality WR's to throw to I can't wait to see what he does. Of course, Matt Schaub is still my first choice as the starting QB for that team. I say make Vick a WR and totally phuk people up. You see how dangerous he can be out of the back field, just imagine if everytime he got the ball he was already 15-20 yards down field. Teams would automatically have to put two guys on him which would open up Crumpler, Finneran, White and therunning game would be wide open. But, that's just a pipe dream.

The only problem i have with that is i'm not so sure Vick can stay fast for the entire game. As a qb he can, as a wr running 50 yrds a play 40- 60 plays a game, i dunno.
They should experiment with him and move him out of position to see what how the defense reacts. Line up asd a qb and swap with a wr thats in motion. I bet the defense flips the hell out and assignments get missed and or confused.
