I build drag cars, motorcycles, restore cars for a living. My 11sec Nova had 3:73 gears in the ass end when I hit 192. When I ran it at the track, it ran 11.30 with 5:13 gears in it. A guy that works for me has a 68 Charger that ran 11.72. He had 4:56 gears in it. I live only 5 minutes away from Route 66 Raceway here in Joliet, IL. I'm there just about every Friday night, so I know what I'm talking about. Plus a Nova with an all STEEL body, and just a fiberglass hood is still heavier than a Supra.

gearing has a lot to do with it. im not sure people are recognizing this. a top end geared car will run slower 1/4 mile times, and obviously run higher top speeds. just an observation about the debate i made.

              That makes perfect sense.
Too bad these goons are too close-minded to believe this...

OK, So lets say you did do 192, how stable is that car at that kinf of MPH. How well does it turn? Most drag cars dont turn well. Im just luckey I bought a car that does both. I drove an 11 Sec Chevy II (Same thing as a Nova) and it was tubbed, with skinneys up front. Unless I was going in a straight line, i wouldnt go over 50.

PS. Alexander, what goons are you talking about? Changing gears to drive on the street then run 11's at the strip sounds like too much work for me.

Never more than 150 MPH honestly. 94 Z28 6 speed, Koni DA, 600# front springs 140-160# rears, subframes, STB, 411 RWHP/385 RWTQ, just didn't have the balls to push more and frankly I'm not ashamed. I do road race, but if I get caught I'd be in deep shit (either way really, anything over 100), and if I lost control I'd really be in deep. Car was TOTALLY stable, but the spring/shock setup is fucking insane, Konis rock.

In my 240Z I have been a little over 100, when I bought the car some jackoff previously had torched the springs, so it was so low that the coils were nearly resting on each other. Whenever I'd hit a bump the coils would bottom out on themselves sending the car sideways, fucking ricers. Bought some stock springs thereafter, and cut 1.5 coils.

Before anyone BSs me about cutting springs, it is not slammed. Cutting a coil increases the spring rate in proportion to the # of active coils reduced as a fraction, I can provide online calculators for the car nerds who want to calculate spring rate changes. The problem with cutting springs is you can't slam the car because the spring rate will not be sufficient to avoid bottoming out, the 240Z was practically a rally car when it came out so I have plenty of head room. I'll get coil overs in the future...
