Make the paint job phenominal. Your son will be happy even if he doesn't win first. Buy the weights you can break apart and take a scale with you so you can get the car to the heaviest weight permitted.

there are tons of sites online to help you with weights and lubricants. follow these instructions and make your car look like you want it.

these were fun times even though my dad did not help me. (he would not know a circular saw from a drill press and even if he knew could not use either)

read all the tips and tricks. there are more than you think and they will all help a little bit. MAKE A BADASS CAR! do the dangerous stuff but leave the rest to your kid. i had trouble with this when mine was little.

Somehow one of my YT channels led me to an entire community of pinewood derby enthusiasts lol!
Check out the channel "Smarter Everyday" and look for Pinewood derby. It shows a couple who've studied pinewood racing down to an exact science...from weight distribution to wheel placement. Their cars win every time. Go git'em lol!
