i'm thinking about quiting my job and persuing my dream of becoming a doctor. i just don't know though. i make really good money as a systems admin, but i am miserable. i hate it. i would like to quit my job become a personal trainer and go to med school full-time. but how would i pay for it? i could pay for it with my salary now, but i would never have any time to study. shit - i don't know what to do. but i'm not going to spend the rest of my life in a job i despise. i know that much for sure.

thinking about going to med school
The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they are suppose to like, what they're suppose to buy, and what they're suppose to laugh at. You have Beavis and Butthead telling you what music you're allowed to like and not like, and you've got sitcoms that have canned laughter that lets you know when to laugh if you're too stupid to know when the joke is. People are too lazy and too stupid to think for themselves because America has raised them that way.

If that is what you truly desire Goliath, go for it. You say that you are miserable now so what difference will it make if you are miserable through the academic years of trying to finance med school. At least after that misery and sacrifice, you will have accomplished a dream and a goal, as well as creating an opportunity for financial security.EVERYTHING I SAY IS ONLY AN OPINION.

I was in the Telecommunications/IT field for almost 10yrs and I am now going to school to become a Chiropractor (I know you hate them). I do have money coming in from the VA, but that will only carry me for about another 1 1/2 yrs, leaving me w/another 5-6 yrs of school to finance on my own. I was making almost 95k/yr when I got laid off (funny thing is I already had my resignation in). It is not easy even w/the help of my VA benefits, but the ends will truly justify the means because it is what I desire. I can feel your pain and misery for the tech. field. Good luck in whatever you choose my friend.
thanks for the words brother. it sounds like you were in the same position i'm in now. it's terrifying to walk away from a stable postiton making more money than most people will ever make. i'm gonna stay where i'm at through the summer so i can get out of the lease on my apt. i can't afford to live here on a retail clerk salary. LOL - it looks like i'm gonna shoot for the fall semester. i mentioned this to my wife, and i don;t know who is more excited about ti, me or her...The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept.
