      Re: Well this sucks...

I'm 9 days post surgery for my Umbilical hernia and I believe the docs always go for overshooting recovery time. Everyone is different. I was up and down all day on day one just from a sitting position. By day three I was doing simple chores around the house(folding laundry) straightening up the kitchen. No lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk though. Day five I mowed the lawn on my riding mower and drove my car. I was able to
Get up from laying down. Today i carried my
Chop saw from the garage to the deck and carried some wood flooring up from the garage too. It has made me mindful of techniques in everyday movements to utilize other muscles than abs. I think you really have to just take those baby steps and test yourself. I know I am far from ready to get back to work full swing nor lift but I'm not going to be out of commission the six weeks like my doc told me either. I'm starting cardio tomorrow and I'm adding light weight machine training next week.

Had mine done on April 1st, was training with weights (isolated seated) after 2 weeks, and started squats light after the 4th week of recovery. Abs was just planks and leg raises...now that I am completely healed been trying to get core strengthened as my lower back was overcompensating for hernia for a while before surgery. You will be fine Gusto, had mesh done too...had a massage on Saturday and she massaged the area and all is good. Just rest and take it slow...my surgeon was realistic with me...said he knew he couldn't keep me down for long, just said please wait 4 weeks before compound movements, after 6 weeks go ahead and get back to it.
