My son took keppra for just over 3 years and still had seizures. Keppra at a fairly high dose is a good "general" medication but the side effects are out of control. My son became very very moody and uncontrollable at times. We have got him on a more localized med now called Oxcarbazepine. Hasn't siezed up in I've 8 months with very little side effects.

I'm sorry to hear about your son's seizures. It's brutal to witness that happening as a parent.

What dose was his Keppra set at?

My son is on about 350 mg daily in split doses. Thankfully he has had no seizures the entire time on Keppra.

I just started at 250mg twice a day.

I can't really remember what his dose was but 300mg in the morning and 350mg before bed keeps sticking out in my head. Do you know about the discount cards for Keppra? They will save you a ton of money. I'm on an HSA plan right now so I have to pay the cash price for his new meds and I've found that buying bulk helps out a bunch on price.

I take both Carbamazepine and Dilantin...
