  • Shift workers

Where are my shift workers at? I'm finishing my fourth year apprenticeship in power generation this spring. Up till now I've been a 4/10 worker soaking up life. My seniors decided I'm capable to come on shift and help them out "do their paperwork while they wash their car". I'm not too tore about starting shift early, I knew it was coming. It's been a hell of an eye opener though doing 12 hour shifts rotating with only 5 men. Anybody else out there similar to this? So far so good but I've got 33 more years of this shit left.

What exactly do you mean by shift work? ? Would another description be swing shift? Say one week days, next week nights, third week afternoons? ?
I know swing shift will take years off your life. .lol seriously, the constant change and your body never gets adjusted. I'm a 7-3 on 5x8's with the occasional 4x10 week thrown in there.

It's absolutely bizarre. It's a rotating schedule with 5 guys for 24hr coverage of 12hr shifts. So I was just off for six days. I'm on an 8hr today as an extra then 3 12hr days. Off for two then on nights for 3 12hr nights. Off for 6. On for 4 days, off 1, on for 6 days. It's absolutely batshit crazy.

Damn, I didn't have those pay period, that was the one with a 1 day turnaround. Anyway I was just looking asking if anyone else here maintains the lifting lifestyle and does shift work. I'm hoping to god it won't be a problem but always looking for pointers.

I had something similar to that. I worked day, swing and grave shift every week.. It was absolute hell! I did it for about 8 months before I transferred.. I drank lots of coffee and took phentermine on my night shifts.. I made it through it but it was horrible ha.

Ah thanks for the inspiration. I see the light at the end of the tunnel is really a train lol. We don't do swing shift here, it's just good ol days or nights. It's not strenuous, I sit in a controll room a watch screens and coordinate with distributors. We've even got skinamax on tv for night shift.

Haha! Not to be a downer lol! That's good it's it stressful. I was doing warehouse work so it sucked ass!! Lol
I know a few guard who do a shift like you and they say you 'kinda' get used to it and they drink a lot of caffeine..
I used to hit the gym after my graves to get worn out so I could sleep better.. But that's me

I hope I can handle it. It too good of pay and benefit to leave but it's 3am, I've been up for an hour, shift doesn't start till 6 and I went to bed at 10 last night... I feel fine now but we'll see how wasted I am by 3pm
