What were the symptoms when your vehicle broke down?? What year and how many miles?? One of the main causes of engine failure is lack of oil. Not saying you negated to check the oil or that you ran it low, the engine could have had a small oil leak somewhere and it just wasn't very noticeable. Do you trust your mechanic??

Something in the oil line blew. Just had the oil changed about 1500 miles ago. Not sure if it was something negligent on their part or just a freak thing.

I'm not 100% familiar with the equinox but most modern car engines do not have any external oil lines other than for the transmission. Like sfg said, I'd be asking a lot more questions as to exactly what happened. Just trying to help. If it was someone else's fault they should be footing the bill for the engine replacement.

Didn't literally mean an oil line..but a gasket or the filter failed... that's just from what I noticed when looking at it. My dad went up while I was at work to get the details...just haven't had a chance to hear what's up.

Let us know brother. either you got screwed on this or someone is responsible either for a part that needed recall or the person who changed your oil that car is way to new to be having total engine failure unless you beat the balls of it and as you said its a family car so i doubt that is the case

The filter shouldn't fail unless it was struck by road debris or something like that, or it wasn't installed properly. This happened to a guy I know that got his oil changed at Wal-Mart. The Wal-Mart mechanic didn't even put a oil filter back on and on his way home the oil light came on. He pulled over before any engine damage was done. Anyways.. Just trying to help. I hate to see you pay for someone else's mistake.

This is why I tell people to take their vehicles to the dealer for oil changes. Most dealers rates for oil changes are competitive with the jiffy quick lubes. I cant change the oil and filter in my f250 diesel cheaper than the Ford Dealer. Not only that, a factory trained tech is doing the oil change, they are more than qualified to do so. Most places like walmart hire anyone off the street that says they can swing a wrench. Another thing is dealers will and have to pay for their mistakes. Way higher level of service.

^ oh i agreee 100% we did it ourselves. i redid the whole frint end after i hit a wall so it was easier for me to just do everything. oil change was the last thing on the list i was tired and wasnt paying the proper attention i should have. very true statements there though
