  • I LOST A BEST FRIEND...

A FRIEND OF MINE SINCE THE 4TH GRADE. HE WOULDNT LET GO OF THE DRUGS AND I FEEL LIKE ITS PARTLY MY FAULT BECAUSE I COULD HAVE DONE MORE TO GET HIM TO QUIT...ITS HARD. I COULDNT GET HIM TO LET IT GO. EVERYONE HAD THEIR TIME TO SOW THEIR OATS - BUT HE JUST WENT WIDE OPEN ALL THE TIME. I KIND OF SEPERATED MYSELF FROM HIM BECAUSE OF IT AND NOW HES GONE. WHY DO I FEEL SO GUILTY?

PLEASE EVERYONE, IF YOU HAVE A FRIEND- LET THEM KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. IF THEY ARE HURTING, HELP THEM. IF THEY ARE STRUGGLING, TALK TO THEM.

YOU NEVER KNOW IF TOMORROW WILL COME.

I am sorry for your loss and understand this as we have lost a friend to the same thing. There is NOTHING anyone can do to make an addict quit. It has to be their choice. Sounds like you did all you could and you cannot beat yourself up about it.

Dependency of recreational drugs is very deep in the mind-set. There is little a friend or family can do, to help out.
The person has to want to stop it themselves bro.

This is not your fault!! You did what you could. Do not torcher yourself over it bro. YOUR FRIEND WOULD NOT WANT YOU TO THINK IT WAS YOUR FAULT!!!!

Perhaps your friend will send you possitive msgs through this thread bro.

I was with the wrong people during my mid 20s, and drugs were like water back then, abundant and by masses.
Family or friends could not stop me. But I did it myself, with the help of every rock, tree......I count my blessings daily that I never died, or went to jail for 100 years sentences or more.

I think a lot of us underwent deep phases in our lives.

It made us who we are today!!

Re: I LOST A BEST FRIEND...

I had a real good friend with the same problem we even went to as far as a intervention and he lied to all of our faces then he goes out and gets himself into trouble so we show up to help him out and he yells at us for coming. so we all cut him off month later he goes to jail for drugs three months later dui and now he has finally gotten help because he had no friends left but i told him he has a long was to go making amends. i kept close enough to hear about things but had to let him hit rock bottom on his own before he realized he needed help. now he is back in the gym trying to get as big as he was when he started drugs went from 205 to 150 now working back up

Re: I LOST A BEST FRIEND...

someone losing there life no matter what it is sucks. but i share no sympathy for dudes on recreational drugs. they are all the same in my book, they become assholes scrounging for money that will stab you in the back as long as they can have there PRECIOUS drugs.

i had a friend i grew up with just like yourself, i separated myself from this dude years ago bc of this shit, and if he were to pass today bc of drugs i would feel no remorse. its like what katelly said if they are that selfish to do that to us, then screw them. dont take what i say personally, i just feel people in the position your friend put himself in deserves no sympathy.

you may sit there and think "aw man i couldve done more" and that may be true, but the reality of the matter is you cant change a person, only they can change themselves. you should NEVER take blame for someone elses actions.

Sorry for your loss brother, but don't think for a second it's something to feel guilty about. Some people have that "YOLO" attitude, and like you mentioned, "he went wide open all the time."

Keep your head up, and remember the good times with him, even if drugs were involved...
