Air Force calls number of sex assaults 'appalling'
The U.S. Air Force's top officer says the service recorded an "appalling" number of reports of sexual assault last year even as it worked to curb misconduct in the wake of a sex scandal at its training headquarters in the state of Texas.

This is the one thing that nudges me when thinking about my wife deploying over seas. I mean I don't know what to expect at all, but just the thought is enough to make me irate...

I served active duty Air Force and did several deployments plus an unaccompanied short tour (1 year) overseas and I never witnessed any sexual assault or harassment. There weren't many females in my career field so that probably lessens the chance but I never really heard of it at any of my duty stations. I realize it goes on but wonder if it is really as common as they make it sound. A lot of bases are the size of small cities population wise. Still, it is unacceptable at any rate.
