I thought it was better than the Lord of the Rings. ( all three). I also thought the book the Hobbit was also a better read than the other 3..

If you have read the book The Hobbit, be aware that these 3 movies are based on the appendices of The Lord Of the Rings.

Written 17 years after The Hobbit, the Appendices contain a great deal more detail as well as answer many questions left unanswered by The Hobbit.

The movie was awesome in my opinion. We saw it in 3D, and this first movie was more satisfying as a stand alone movie.
The Fellowship of the Ring ended in a clumsy kind of way, to me.

Much better effort on this movie!

i never read any of the books i just remember the cartoons from when i was a child.

i'm looking forward to seeing the new movie

Been a fan of the series for many years. Excellent film. The attention to very minute details such as props and sets is amazing, just as it was in the LOTR films. If you are a fan or liked the other films, you'll love this one too.

I am a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings, ranking it in my top 3 all time. With that said, I honestly thought The Hobbit was every bit as good as the first LOR, if not better. The critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 65% and criticized it pretty heavily, which just reinforced why I never pay attention to the critics. The users gave it about 84%, which is much better but I honestly think it should have been in the upper 90s. If you like LOR then you should love The Hobbit.
