I have a herniated disc in my lower back. It was discovered when I was 17. I went to a back specialist and he told me that I would never be able to lift weights again and that I would not be able to run ever again. I went to another specialist that told me I could do whatever I wanted, it just depends on how much pain I can handle. He sent me to physical therapy and I started doing exercises to strengthen by lower back and abs. I am now almost 22 years old and I am bigger and stronger then I have ever been. My lower back still gets sore and I am stiff in the morning a lot, but it is not as bad as what it was when I first injured it. Like trip has said get lots of opinions and def do surgery as a last resort. Good luck.

Pudgy - thanks for clearing that up. I am, however, going to check when I get home tonight. I thought I smelled something burning in that machine? It can't do that, right? RIGGGGGHHHHHHTTTTTT?
