the only good thing about $4 a gallon gas is that It could help get rid of obaama. If it gets rid of obama, I will gladly pay it..LOL...of course that scum bag will probably bring it down temporarily until after he gets reelected. I dont know if this country can survive 4 more years of this guy

He cannot bring the price down unless he strips the federal tax which he won't do. A president has little to no control to fix present gas prices. It takes years of oil exploration and drilling to affect prices. However, if he would immediately start allowing oil companies to drill everywhere they want, especially Alaska and the Gulf, plus allow the Keystone Pipeline, then gas prices could decrease some due to futures trading. Futures has a large impact on the price of oil, but of course there are other factors as well such as global supply and demand, the amount of drilling around the world, and hostility in high oil producing countries like those in the Middle East.

It is almost certain that gas prices will be higher in the summer. I don't see how Obama could do anything to counter this. His policies for his entire tenure have helped drive the price of oil up. This is his intention too. His administration and supporters of his have always said that they believe high gas prices will force people to *** hybrids and electric cars, and use other alternative sources for energy.

I think we might as well start getting used to 4-5 dollars a gallon. Even if a Republican wins this election the price of oil and gas could still remain high and likely will climb higher. This is because war with Iran is imminent, and possibly Syria too. War in the Middle East does nothing to save us money at the pump. However, prior to a war in either of those two countries, if we elect a Republican there could be a short term boost in confidence if the drilling bans are repealed.

I hate how presidents save all these headline BS right before elections...why didn't he push 3 years ago?

They do it every time. However, like I said above, there is not much he can do to lower the price. First of all, futures traders probably don't have any confidence in this man at all. And even if he did permit more drilling sites you can bet your money on it that he would repeal them all if he gets reelected. I can see that happening big time, even after companies would start setting up and spending million of dollars, he would find some excuse to shut them down again, perhaps even another spill would occur...lol.
