  • Stress coping mechanisms

What do you all do to help you cope with stressful times in your life? I tend to clean like a madwoman when I am stressed, but I much prefer getting massages.

    Re: Stress coping mechanisms

I usually just breath in and out. I do not believe an exercise session gets rid of stress, not for me anyways. Exercise adds to stress for me, continuous exercise over a period of time like weeks or months will lower my stress levels, but it is not an immediate release. If I have anxiety exercise works, but it just amps me up. I have been stressed my whole life, it feels like I could flip out easily. Usually just a yell to my self gets rid of the way I feel. I bet if you just screamed at the top of your lungs in anger, you would feel 100 times better. It seems to me I feel like afterwards, "Why did I even scream" . Then I feel fine. I would also suggest meditation. These things can be temporary for short term, if used over a period of time, they will decrease or eliminate your stress level overall.

Sex or you know...if you cant find someone? Talking to a guy for me helps..a good listener. I dont find talking to many women very stress re-leaving. It would prob make me worse, lol! Oh, working out actually helps me alot.

Definitely for me the first thing is a nice heavy workout.Whether its under the bar or on the mat, nothing beats going full throttle in the gym until you cant any more.Just go in there and forget everything else and just let it all out.

Then of course there's the meal afterwards.I tend to cook every now and then and trust me,there's nothing more calming than getting creative in the kitchen and then devouring it afterwards.

Of course there's sex and that does relieve stress but thats a given.Fortunately for me,the wife and I still have a pretty active sex life so I never get too built up with that kind of stress.LOL.

I like to do alot of computer graphics and portraits of things while hearing my ipod. I usually just let my imagination take over and convert the images to graphics.
