Every year, new trends show up on cocktail menus and on the shelves behind bars across the land. It might be wine from a certain region, a plethora of boutique versions of a particular spirit, a trend in mixing cocktails, or even new styles of drinking establishments such as punch houses.Some, like the development of “serious” cocktail bars, are welcome and bring a new burst of energy to an already exciting scene. Others, like the urge to combine spirits with ingredients with which they should never share a glass, emerge as little more than the result of committee-inspired thinking by desperate marketing executives.Here are the hottest drinks trends I've noticed around the world in my travels in 2011.
