Re: Young Kids and lying
if they are more towards 10 its easier just to talk to them an explain why lying is bad and the consequences of it now and later in life... i personaly believe in complete honesty even when its hard or makes things harder. you just have to sit them down and talk. punishment dosent usually do the trick by it self, it just makes them want to lie better so they dont get caught next time.

Re: Young Kids and lying
I have an 8 and 10 yr old. The 8 yr old girl, most of the time, had begun to know better and will not lie to me. she's not a good lier and easy to spot if lying due to her facial expression. My 10 yr old son is another story. He will stare blankly at me when telling me something. Very difficult to spot. However, when caught she will attempt to justify the why he lied. In both situations i tell them i am dissapointed in them in that they could not tell me the truth. I tell them that, as a family, we must be able to trust one another all the time as, without trust, we can lose the family bond.

Re: Young Kids and lying
with both of mine we had talks about lying first...."the boy who cried wolf" and so on and so forth. i explained to them both that lying and stealing will not be tolorated at all. so...it depends now how many times i've had the talk with them about it and if it was a white lie or what it was about. lying about going into my wallet and stealing 50bucks got my daughter an asswhoopin!!!HE WHO MAKES A BEAST OF HIMSELF, GET'S RID OF THE PAIN OF BEING A MAN!!

Re: Young Kids and lying
6 years old is old enough to where an asswhoopin would be understood. im a firm believer that asswhoopins are the best way to correct an issue like this. i swore at my father around the age of 6 and he back handed me. i still remember it to this day and i didnt do it again until i was about 15 or 16LIFT BIG, EAT BIG, GET BIG!

Re: Young Kids and lying
When I was 6 I got beat with a 3' piece of re-bar for lying. Not hit, beat-and I was telling the truth. I turned out ok. If you can reason with your kid, then I'm all for it. The "time out stuff doesn't work. The proof is the crime rate vs. 30 years ago.(thank you Dr. Spock) Just be balanced. If your kid gets a good speech, good. If not, take something away. Last resort, a little pain but, by all means, don't beat the poor kid. Remember you love 'um and never discipline out of anger.
