but man, I have heard some things about mercury in tuna and not eating more than a can a week to be safe. I hate to be a buzz kill and pop her bubble about tuna...LOL...Isnt that a fact though? I guess I could google it but I figured I would ask opinions..how much tuna is safe? I imagine some bodybuilders arent concerned with side effects of anything...LOL

Re: Nothing but Tuna and green leaves
i really think it depends. I know there use to be a big problem with this but im not sure anymore. Also you can eat a lot of tuna, then if your merc levels get high lay off and your body will naturally dispose of the mercury. I use to eat 2-4 cans a day for quite sometime and i always seemed pretty fine.

Re: Nothing but Tuna and green leaves
mercury is one of those things that accumulate in your body. while most adults wont notice much, some can get mercury poisoning.
if i am not mistaken by taking alpha lipoic acid, you may reduce the risk of neurological probs from mercury and dispose of it from your body..
at the least its a great anti oxidant
its worth a try

Re: Nothing but Tuna and green leaves
There is an older, very health conscious guy in our gym that ate tuna daily. He was told by his doc to stop immediately. Doc thought all the tuna was causing other internal issues he had.
i used to eat about 2 cans a day. i will eat it every so often but have been off the kick.
careful giving tuna to children...heard that's really not good

Wow. I don't eat a lot of tuna but I eat it. I had always heard that you had to consume WAY more than normal to have to worry about Mercury. Maybe I should quit eating it."He woke up because I kept punching him in the face." --Thiago Alves

Re: Nothing but Tuna and green leaves
I was at a weekend Nutrition conference in February and the speaker talked for a while about mercury in fish and some of the problems it can cause. The bigger the fish, the more likely it has mercury. Little fish like herring and sardines are pretty much mercury free. But shark is by far the most toxic. I will do some reading up on this topic.

Ok, if youre over 150 pounds, no more than ONE CAN of albacore every 9 days and one can of Chunk Light every 3 days...I think that mercury in the body is definitely something we all need to be concerned about.
Heres the information:
