You dont get them from NOT wearing a belt just FYI- and yes I had one and it was day surgery easy......... I also have sliding hiatal hernia- where my stomach slides in and out of my esophagus- that one is easy to fix but you have to go back every 2-5 to have it redone. Have the umilical fixed then just take care to not strain

hernias aren't to be taken lightly and should be repaired asap. small ones are dangerous, but they can become bigger and bigger and they can cause death by pinching your intestines closed. think of this way too.... it's much easier and stronger to fix a small one then a large one.

with that being said, i thought i had and umbilical hernia but when i had the surgery in dec, the doc actually found two vetreal hernias. i didn't have insurance so it took me a 10 months to save from the surgery and in that time it tripled in size and i wasn't even training.

ok...i dont get this. you cannot get a hernia from failure to wear a belt?

Re: Anyone have an umbilical hernia?

You get one from straining. People should not rely on a belt. That's a false sense of security. Belts should only be used if you are injured or competing. People that rely on supports weaken the area therefore that weakness develops over time. It's been proven over and over that muscles atrophy when supportive equipment are used. Typically its the habit of always wearing a belt that causes injury. There's a difference in training heavy and straining when weakened.

honestly....i NEVER wore a belt until that happened...i was the one on FG saying not to use a belt!! now...for my heaviest set of bent rows or deads i use a belt. and i knew it happened from straining bro, lmao...i wasnt expecting that answer...i thaugth you had something real to say about why a belt dont help....winter time, 315 bent rows with belt and no further probs...

Re: Anyone have an umbilical hernia?

I have one... Have had it for at least 5 years that I can recall. Doesnt hurt, doesnt affect me at all. Just a small bump over navel. I can push everything back in but it slowly pushes back out. Just doesnt seem very major to get taken care of. Size has not changed at all either. Oh well.....
