Re: Diesel question
Really depends on what motor. Like dave said the 7.3 was a workhorse. The 6.0 and 6.4 is a crapshoot. It depends on what day of the week it was made if it was any good or not. They are either good or full of problems. I have a 6.7 now and love it.They call you paranoid until the worst happens, and in the aftermath they will call you a hero.

Re: Diesel question
It's a 7.3. I found it locally on craigslist. I haven't talked to the guy. I just saw the ad and it brought the question to mind. Heres the link:

Re: Diesel question
If you don't know a lot about diesels, take it to a diesel mechanic and get a survey done on it. The 7.3 is the best motor international made. They call you paranoid until the worst happens, and in the aftermath they will call you a hero.

Re: Diesel question
yep...good truck year. see what kind of work it did. see if its xlt or lariate. when was the last tune up? reciepts for any maintance in the last 2yrs? were the glow plugs replaced recently? tell him "i'm thinking, if straight, it may be a 7 or 7500 dollar truck....would you entertain an offer if i came and checked it out and it looked right?" i'm betting he's got another one he wants and this one is holding him up. if he got it appraised the miles scare managers away and they hit it for 4-5k....its worth better than that IF ITS STRAIGHT AND ALL THERE...and he's right...get it looked at by soemone whio knowsHE WHO MAKES A BEAST OF HIMSELF, GET'S RID OF THE PAIN OF BEING A MAN!!

Re: Diesel question
I kno the diesel guys always talk trash how the trucks just barely broken in at 180k but thats fine even if thats the case. However there is more to the truck than its motor. What about everything else that will nickle and dime you? How longs the rear gonna last, suspension, trans, etc...Thats what worrys me and keeps me from buying a high mileage diesel bc they are still expensive. I'd rather buy a used gas engine truck w/ 120k on it for $3000 and sell it every year for 3k and just continue that. Of course I dont do this because I just use my parents truck when I need to tow.

Re: Diesel question
I'd trade him my Ranger for it if he just needs a work truck.....
seriously, have it checked out, that enginge is one of the best they had in those truck, the smalle 6 litre engines were nothing short of crap. my friend just recently traded in his 6.0l 350 that was clean as a whistle but stayed in the shop more than in his driveway! Pics are deceiving, but it has the bling factor from a distance!"To gain strength on the outside it takes a greater strength within!"
I'm not trying to be better than anyone, I am just trying to be better than who I was yesterday.

Re: Diesel question
The guy sent me a text this morning saying he would take 8500 this weekend only. This was after I told him I was going to look around for something with lower miles."He woke up because I kept punching him in the face." --Thiago Alves

Re: Diesel question
He obviously wants to sell it to you really badly or he would have said 7500 if its still here. 279000 is too many miles for me but that just my opinion id buy one with no more than 250k I know they run for a loooong time but nothing lasts forever and like uprbody said the motor isn't the only thing that has to lastLIFT BIG, EAT BIG, GET BIG!

Re: Diesel question
Yeah, I will probably pass. I just ran up on it on Craigslist and it sounded like a descent deal. My wife is hounding me for a Tahoe in November. If he comes down to 7500, then I may get it. You can't really beat the truck for that price."He woke up because I kept punching him in the face." --Thiago Alves
