So, here in PA, we had a Thursday choc full of massive thunderstorms. Yesterday, my 5 year old says "Dad, I wanna go fishing." I'm thinking to myself, "There's not gonna be sh*t out there with the fast moving water." But, because he's my boy, I say "OK. we can head out for a little." I look in the freezer for some hot dogs (great catfish bait). Absolutely ZERO hot dogs. I figure, "Ah, fu*k it. We're not gonna catch anything anyways. I'll get some chicken."
So, we have this gigantic 10lb bag of Costco chicken wings that I break open. I grab 5 out, nuke 'em for 2 minutes, and head out with my boy. The normally calm river is raging, branches, bottles, debris, all floating by at 15mph. So I bait my boy's Spiderman line, and my line, with the chicken wing. 3 minutes in, my line starts tugging. I wait. 4 minutes in, it tugs again. I patiently wait. 5 minutes in, "GOTCHA!" Something grabs my line, and the fight is on. At first, I thought he was stuck behind a tree or snagged on a rock. But he kept pulling. 6 minutes in, my reel is almost smoking from the friction. 7, 8 minutes go by. I finally get him close enough to pull him ashore! What is it?!?!?! What? It's..... it's....... a 20-25lb carp! Easily 18 inches or better. That sunoma***** fought me for 3 minutes before getting him in. What happened? I was so convinced we weren't going to catch anything, I didn't bring a net, a bucket, nada. So, we let him go to be caught another day. But, it's still shocking I caught him with a chicken wing!
