A childhood friend....

A friend that i'v known since i was 8 years old or for 37 yrs, is really suffering now. A few months back he went to the Doc's cause he was having difficulty swallowing. Turns out he had mouth cancer and underwent immergency surgery. They removed 3/4 of his tongue and half his jaw. Last week for a followup visit, they did a biopsy and things got worse. The cancer spread to his lungs. Doc said there is nothing more we can do. Bring him home and just make him comfortable.

They are hoping for a different answer from a cancer center in NY. Say a prayer for him.


BTW - This was caused by chewing tobacco.

skinny its a terrible thing for people to get sick and I'm deeply sorry for you and your friend. Many many years ago my wife baby1 worked at the Cancer care center at the hospital for years and she had to quit because she couldnt take it anymore people losing there lives. Thers a story I want to share. There was a women who had throat mouth cancer and she came to the center every week for treatment and she brought her beautiful young 4 yr old daughter who had Golden blond hair and this little girl was so cute and beautiful and she used to sit on my wifes lap while my wife was working and her mom was getting treatment. I never told baby1 this but I notoiced how happy baby1 was because at the time we didnt have a child of our own yet. Welll the women had finaly passed away and no more little girl showed up and thats when my wife quit because she got attached to the little girl and it was so hard on my wife. I hope one day that there is a cure for all types of cancer. I dont think I ever told my wife this but I would of loved to adopt that little girl back then and I dont believe in adoption but I would of adopted that beautiful little girl. I now have a daughter who's 7 and I cant even imagine to lose her to anything. So we all have to be careful we all have to get regular check ups. If we have somnething wrong with us and we think oh it will go away ,NO we should get it looked at. We cant take our life for granted. So again skinny our deepest thoughts our with you and your friend buddy

I spoke to his wife yesterday about a few of us wanting to see him. There are about 6 of us who grew up together and for which i shared a crib with two of them. We go way back. She was reluctant to answer my request because my friend does not want anyone to see him in this condition. Totally understandable but it's hard not having the ability to see him.

I left last Sat at 3am with three other long time friends to hop a plane and see him. This was his request. As we were walking to the hospital room i was not sure what to expect. Mind you this guy was big at 6'3", 260 lbs very thick, solid with big hands and feet. Worked very hard and started his own business. Upon walking into the room my heart sank for him. His feet, calves, hands and forearms were still big. But the rest of him was like melted skin with scars, bandages, tubes, wires stiches. Couldn't weigh more that 150. He looked up at us and you can see the expression in his face just glow. We spent several hours for the next three days talking and sharing the old times we had. He broke out a shoe box of old pictures that we passed around of all of us as young kids. He could not talk much and when he did, it was difficult to understand as he had very little tongue left and that peice was getting covered with tunors. He had other tunors in his chest and sides. At times, we had to leave the room as you would see his eyes roll back into his head and he would just pass out or his vital signs were getting wacky and a nurse had to come by. His wife told us it just a matter of short time before he goes. We stayed for 3 days. The hardest part was leaving and saying goodbye. Very much a tearfilled experience as we shuck hands and whispered some sweet nothings to him. The entire trip home was miserable and teary as well. This morning his was gong for more chemo. This session was to be conducted in the emmergency room as opposed to his hospital room because his body was so weak and the docs needs all the help at their finger tips if need be.

Still waiting to hear how he is doing.

Hey guys, an update.

After the chemo on tues morning i received a text " coming to the end of the fight. No longer consious. Keeping him comfortable with morphine til the end".

Made it through the night and passed Wed at about 3pm.

RIP buddy. Gone but never forgotton.
