Re: Atlas Shrugged Part 1, The Movie
This movie coming out has got me studying Ayn Rand. Very interesting. Heres an excellent interview with her from 1964. Some of it is pretty complex philosophy, but a good read. No doubt she would be totally against what Obama is doing to the country.
"A central purpose serves to integrate all the other concerns of a man's life. It establishes the hierarchy, the relative importance, of his values, it saves him from pointless inner conflicts, it permits him to enjoy life on a wide scale and to carry that enjoyment into any area open to his mind; whereas a man without a purpose is lost in chaos."Last edited by Dzone; 03-24-2011, 07:33 AM.

Re: Atlas Shrugged Part 1, The Movie
"If you take the time to re-read Atlas Shrugged, you’ll find it eerily predicted events that are actually happening in our country today. Did you ever think government would own a majority of General Motors, and have the power to name its chairman or chief executive officer? Did you ever believe we’d have a “pay czar”—setting compensation levels for corporate executives?"

Re: Atlas Shrugged Part 1, The Movie
It's funny how I "stumbled" upon the book...I heard the title and thought it was cool, so I got the book. lol And it was neat for me that a lot of the book centers around a rail road, as I've been employed by a rail road for the last 23years. And the icing on the cake is I started reading about Mike Mentzer the body builder, who was a follower of Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism. So, it's all in one neat package for me.

I dont agree with everything that Ayn Rand thought, but most of it is practical and applies to life. I can see how it could be profound in someones life.

Re: Atlas Shrugged Part 1, The Movie
Regarding what he learned from Ayn Rand, Mike Mentzer said in an interview:
Learning logic and acquiring the ability to think critically is not easy, though not impossibly difficult. I
learned how to do these things by reading and "digesting" the works of novelist/philosopher, Ayn Rand. To
get started on the proper, methodical path read her books of explicit philosophic essays "Philosophy: Who
Needs, It?" - especially the Introduction and the first two chapters - and "The Romantic Manifesto" -
especially the second chapter, Philosophy and Sense of Life. After reading and re-reading the first couple
of chapters from each of those books, put them aside for a while and read her two epochally great novels - -
"The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged," in that respective order. Just as is true with any other context of
knowledge, philosophy must be studied in a logically structured order…
