As much as I never imagined I would agree with Trip on as many things as I have lately, I have to say we are thinking along the same lines. It is politics as usual in Washington. The only reason for amendments is to reward lobbyists for their bribes. This is the sickening part of Washington. If you can't afford a lobbyist then you get screwed. But I did like the fact that Republicans blocked funding for some of the czars last week. Yet, I still do not believe the spending will ever be curtailed. Even if Republicans hold true to their rhetoric, the president is still in fact a Democrat, and one who loves to spend money. I admire Fuzo for being optimistic but I cannot say the same for myself. However, if spending is cut drastically I will admit being wrong and give Fuzo props. I really do hope that is the case but I find it hard to imagine considering it has never been done in our lifetimes. The debt increases each year along with deficit spending. Let's see how it all unfolds. The dollar is depending on them.

I will be so very dissappointed if there isnt enough cuts. I mean if theres enough to where it will make a diference but say mabey not as much as they say well thats ok. But if its way under then yeah I will be the first one to bash the house leaders

They will need to cut the annual budget in half to make much of a difference imo. Then, if they can take the excess revenues and put them down on the national debt on a regular basis, other countries will gain confidence in us. However, I think it is already too late. The rest of the world knows we're not serious, and having a socialist in office doesn't help boost confidence either. But as I have said, the only way to cut the amount of spending necessary will require eliminating many programs, which will lead to chaos in the streets. Look at how freaked out the unions in WI are over a mere 6% hike proposal on their pensions and 5% on their health care premiums. Just imagine what happens when programs are eliminated and people's jobs terminated. It doesn't matter though because they aren't going to cut many programs. Besides, the only areas that can really amount to much savings are social security, medicare/medicaid, military, and the federal education system. If none of those are cut then their not serious.

And Fuzo once again I hope they go all the way. I'll be watching their every vote.

Well I hope they cut some social security, medicare/medicail, and the federal education. I also think theres some wasteful spending in our defense dept and I'm sure they will find it. I'm all for the future and to make sure my daughter has something when she gets old

Precisely my point. Also, if programs aren't completely eliminated then we won't see any real savings. Cutting a few percent from spending here and there for the year does nothing. Besides, next year they will use that as an excuse to get more funding. That is how the government works. Everyone knows how state highway funds work, right? Basically, they get a certain amount of money for the year and then spend it all so that the next year they can get more. The federal government does that with every single program. It is the exact opposite of the private market. Managers and executives in the private market are rewarded for reducing spending each year, always aiming for saving. The federal and state governments do not know how to do that. That is why they are broke. When you are spending other peoples money you don't care how much you spend or don't save. However, when you own a company, or manage one, you can be fired or go out of business if you don't have spending under control.

states are screwed because retail sales are down and housing goes lower so there income on property taxes is going down down down when they assumed they'd go up up up and they never saved a dime

this is a 15 year problem in the making, during 95-2000 tech boom retail sales taxes were way above average, they spent like drunken sailors and leveraged up with bonds to spend more, during tech wreck when greenspan lowered rates, states were saved by refinancing bonds at historically lower rates, then they did the same shyte during home boom, now with rates low they want too refi again, yet, the ability to pay back with taxes is highly questionable, ie, riskier, 1/2 of stim money went directly too states, what did they do spend it and put off hard decisions, so they again showed fiscal irresponsiblity, do u want to lend a state money or buy oil

over time trust erodes and credit drys up and growth stops cause it's a leveraged leveraged society

That is the insanity and immaturity of governments. They don't know how to just save money. Heck, most Americans live the same way though. Spend every penny, then get a raise and spend some more, never worrying about potentially bad times down the road when a nest egg could come in handy.
