  • good riding form resource?

i watched a short vid a buddy took on his phone of me riding through a curvy area in my home town known as the playground.

he critiqued my approach angle, my posture, and my speed.

i was slow, too stiff and he said "both cheeks were firmly on the seat" which i thought was good until another guy came through with his bike more upright than mine and probably 2X as fast.

i want to learn proper riding technique so i dont get any bad habits

That's right. You gotta get that ass off the seat. Hang off the bike to keep it planted as well as possible, and use your body weight from side to side. The more you get your butt off the seat and lean hard into the turn, the faster you can go. Hence the knee-dragging in turns. Of course, you don't want to do that without track pants. I almost strawberried my right knee getting alittle too low in regular jeans. Gotta tear in the crease at the side of the knee of those jeans. Your stock foot-pegs will let you know before you get too low.
And you do not want to be braking at all once you engage the turn. You wanna do your braking before the turn, but as late as possible. He who brakes latest wins. But you wanna slow-to-turn-speed prior to actually dropping a knee. Then you wanna throttle through the turn to plant the rear tire. This takes practice. practice practice practice...and more practice. You wanna get the tires up to temp before really getting into turns. I'm sure you guys are making sure the track, or "track", is clean of debris in the turns and such. (I have a push broom that I throw in the woodline where I play.)
Just listen to the guys that are fast, and that have some real track time, and any track schooling is the best info. Nobody wants to see a bike sliding across the ground, or fellow rider, of course. But ultimately, you gotta learn to trust the bike's ability, and the fact that those tires will hold. Before ya know it, you'll feel the rear tire slip out just before you turn. You're cookin then. That's called "backing it into the turn". Just as you've probably heard watching GT auto racing.(road racing)

Awesome though jipped! Glad to hear you're digging in. That's what those bikes love, and are made for. That's when the riding position is no longer an issue, as you're probably noticing.

02 will have solid input. I believe he's had some good track time.

i have been trying to shift my body inside of the turn so the bike was slightly more upright and i was changing the center of gravity to the inside but i havent gotten to sliping my butt off the seat.

i rode to thai boxing yesterday. i was gonna go to a nice deserted area where bike guys ride frequently but my legs were tore up and my elbows were sore.

riding fatigued probably wouldnt be a good idea.

LOL. hey i really just wanted to show off my bike. the ride down was great

i have noticed that wind gusts can be very bad and move me sometimes 2 feet on the road. especially on overpasses.

i still try to loosen up on the handlebars. if there is one thing i learned in MMA is loose is fast to react and tight is slow

JIPPED YOU WILL LEARN TO "REST" WHILE RIDING. NO NEED FOR THE DEATH GRIP ON THE BARS! IT WILLCOME NATURAL TO YOU BEFORE LONE. SEAT TIME WILL DO IT. JUST RIDE BROTHER!

see. 02 with the news. Relax those fingers while you're riding. No choke-hold. Loose. as you said jipped.

One important thing that I've heard on the sportbike forums. People don't realize how important it is to keep your clutch lever adjusted. You want about a quarter inch, at most imo, slack on it. And being it only takes a finger, and a gnats ass pull to shift. Then you definitely want to completely take your finger off the clutch after shifting. Just a finger rest could put you riding the clutch without knowing. These clutches are super tough. Everything about these bikes are tough, but a clutch just a bit too snug, and it only takes an hour, as happened to a guy on an '07 R6. Yamaha's clutches seem the most sensitive too. Still tough as nails, but it just takes the tiniest pull to disengage. With that being the case, you'll want to keep that 1/4" slack adjusted.

my clutch is good i think. the bike being new is pretty tight still. i have noticed it shifting smoother and the throttle response is crisper.
