Re: New study:Alcohol more harmful than crack, heroin, etc
i have never done heroin. but i have only heard of a handful of folk dying from alcohol poisoning and junkies OD all the time on heroin.
also have these folk ever seen a meth head scurrying about with sores all over their body, sunken cheeks and the propensity for stealing copper from live power lines?
i think i will stick to alcohol

To me, these kinds of comparisons can be skewed however you want to get the results you want by classifying each different criteria to weigh more than others.
IMO, there is no way that drinking a bud light is worse than taking a hit of meth where you are 99% likely to get addicted to it after one try....come on.

Re: New study:Alcohol more harmful than crack, heroin, etc
Where on God's green earth did you hear that you are 99% likely to get addicted to meth after one try? I can debunk that myself. yep. I've witnessed, with my own 2 eyeballs, about 4 or 5 people smoking meth, and out of that group, only 1 was an addict.
Talk about skewing numbers.
I just read up on herion. Herion was created by the German company Bayer. The same Bayer that manufactures asprin. It was manufactured, and marketed, as a non-addictive alternative to morphine. Herion was a cough suppressant & pain-killer. It wasn't long at all before the non-addictive part had to be retracted as the Bayer company learned that herion quickly metabolizes into morphine by the body.
After some reading up, I learned that heroin is prescribed in several countries to addicts so that they can live a normal life without having to deal with the black market, possibility of obtaining bad heroin, and to keep them off the streets. So evidently, a daily quality heroin dose can be a responsible, and healthy, alternative to the black market. Of course that sounds crazy to most of us, but when the doc tells us that a daily glass of red wine actually has some health benefits, we aren't shocked at all. And if you read up on the effects of ethanol/alcohol on the human body, cells, cell membranes, brain cells...basically, everything that it comes in contact with, you might wonder how any alcohol could possibly be healthy.

Re: New study:Alcohol more harmful than crack, heroin, etc
One thing I really feel I need to get out there; I don't condemn anyone for any vices we may have. I used to laugh and call 'bullshit' when a doctor or addict referred to their situation as a disease. I have since learned that addiction, wheather alcohol or drugs, is as legitimate a disease as any. Which medication is needed for life in some cases. Regardless of the vice. I'm not judging, condemning, or any of the sort. I'll probably enjoy one of those beers my neighbors brought me this evening while my wife enjoys her evenin glass of wine. or 2.
It's all about responsibility. With freedom comes responsibility. Since we've lost so much freedom, with it, responsibility has went by the wayside.
Cheers

Re: New study:Alcohol more harmful than crack, heroin, etc
Just want to make sure that I say that I didnt post this thread to dog anyone about drinking...Nothing wrong with it in moderation...I personally havent drank alcohol in years..but when I did, I was a hard core drinker..Damn near killed myself with alcohol...I hardly ever drank when I was younger...but went thru a phase when I was going to bars and then would go home and drink some more. 100 Proof vodka..Thank God I don't drink anymore.
One time, when my dad was in the ICU, I was talking to the head nurse and she told me if it weren't for cigarettes and alcohol, that the hospital would be at least 50% empty

Statistics don't lie. And I was talking about alcohol overdose, or alcohol poisoning, to use the more popular term. Not alcohol related deaths. 960 alcohol OD cases per week in 2009. That's here in America alone. Half of those die. That's not even factoring in the deaths resulting from long term alcohol use.
