Nevada Libertarian Candidate platform

Here in Nevada we have some Libertarian candidates running for various offices. On the Libertarian Party of Nevada's website they list their five planks, and one of them is to end marijuana prohibition. If interested, watch the two short videos on the topic. The one at the top has some heartbreaking stories about some of the people charged with marijuana crimes, and the one below it has a $10,000 offer to anybody who can prove marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol. There is no doubt that they won't have to write that check.

I do like a lot of the libertarian beliefs, but I think they will never be taken serious in politics as long as they keep the legalizing of drugs as part of their platform.

The reason you like a lot of our beliefs most likely is because you believe in liberty and limited government. The Libertarian Party's platform is fairly cut and dry, maximum liberty with very limited government basically. We believe that all humans have one piece of property upon being born, that of their body, and the state should not have any say over what you do with your body so long as you are not interfering with other people's liberties. The Party is taken seriously by a great number of Americans, many of them very respectful in their career fields, but the philosophy of the Libertarian Party requires a deep understanding of natural rights, the state's role, and free markets. There is no need getting into a debate over marijuana again because nothing I say or anyone else says is going to change anyone's views on the matter. The two party system has already indoctrinated many people into accepting their views on everything, thus the reason Democrats agree with most everything Democrat politicians do or say, and Republicans agree with most everything Republican Politicians do or say. There is no middle ground for many people. On the other hand, I do not believe anything the politicians say, and I certainly don't base my views around theirs. If Americans would forget about the parties and think more seriously about their personal views we wouldn't have a two party system, or any parties at all possibly. Many people probably aren't aware that George Washington was an independent, and did not believe in parties. He stated that if we accept parties in the government they will eventually destroy the country, and low and behold, that is what is happening. Every day new laws are passed, to the tune of hundreds and even thousands a year. Well, since laws are the opposite of liberty, one can only assume we will eventually run out of liberties, and everyone will be a lawbreaker. Marijuana prohibition is just one of many laws that have been created. Yet, alcohol was illegal at one time too, but people grew to accept it again when it became legal. Marijuana was legal some time ago but some people for some reason don't want it to be legal again. The interesting thing is it is Republicans by and large that are against marijuana, and they are the party that is supposed to stand for limited government and maximum liberty. This is just one of the many reasons why I am not a Republican. I do agree with a lot of them on a lot of issues, and I do vote for them most of the time, mainly because I can't stand the thought of todays Democrats (Socialists) holding office. But the Republican Party does not stand up for the principles and views they are supposed to. The most Republican man in the house is Ron Paul, according to the Republican Party's platform, no matter what anyone wants to believe. He is one of very few if any, politicians who votes strictly in accordance with the Constitution every time he votes. He does not budge in his principles, but that is not what the Party wants in a candidate. They want someone who doesn't mind big government, and who will conform to the bigger agenda. But once again I went to the poles today and cast my vote for mostly Republicans, and a hand full of Libertarians who were on the ticket. I have to vote against someone, which will always be Democrats. But there are Libertarian candidates running this time around, only they are running as Republicans. I voted for one today, Sharon Angle. She is clearly a Libertarian, the same as Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Joe Miller, and a few others. But if you look at it another way, they are actually the only true Republicans, in the sense of what our country was founded as, a Republic. As long as we have Libertarians running successfully on the Republican card, I am good.

Just wanted to add that I do agree with you about the party not being taken seriously. However, I believe there will continue to be a wave of Libertarians crossing over to the Republican Party to gain office. In that respect, I think it would be good for the Republican Party and the Libertarians who are not as concerned about the party name their candidates fall under. To me it shouldn't matter what party a candidate runs on as long as they are working to preserve liberty and limit the size of government. This is how the Republican Party can get back to its roots.
